But if you turn to the 'choke' side of it you have some of the best pitchers in the game, like Kershaw and Price, with very mediocre postseason numbers. And that's where the 'small scattered sample size' argument is invoked.

My vote for ugliest player of all time goes to former Jays pitcher Gustavo Chacin. I could hardly stand to even look at the guy, out of a combination of revulsion and pity.

That's true. You can even break it down to each pitcher-hitter confrontation. What actually caused the hitter to get a hit on that at-bat? Was it a bad pitch or a good guess? If it was a bad pitch, was it because the pitcher's nervous or just normal human variance? And so on.

There's no fairness or anything to alternating - it's totally random! Best record might seem to be fair but the first issue is the different leagues, different schedules and the fact that the team with the better record may have lucked into a much easier schedule. There's really no guarantee of fairness at all.

Gurriel hangs a 13-pitch at bat on Darvish before getting out. Is that ironic or something?

Before Selig messed with things home field just alternated and everyone was fine with it. I understand the argument for best record but there are some issues with that too.

I think it was 'Buffalo Heads' and I think that was during the Zimmer years. Lee, Carbo and Willoughby were all traded or moved during that time. Lee of course was banished to Zimmer's doghouse in 1978, leading to the infamous Bobby Sprowl game. The trade of Carbo also hurt us in 1978 when we had a terrible bench.

Dombrowski certainly had a wealth of prospects to work with, and he has certainly sawed through them. With regard to the payroll, though, Price has really been the only big-ticket acquisition. Which had a lot to do with being hamstrung by the Hanley-Panda package.

As far as DD is concerned, his only really large contract so far is Price.

This is a perplexing one. Stanton is one of the premier offensive players in the game and not even in prime years yet. You'd think you'd have to give up something of value.

I think Larry was talking about losing scouting types after DD was hired, not losing coaches.

Dave did not have a 'huge budget' to work with. If he did all he had to do for the offense was sign Encarnacion. And you know he would have if Henry authorized it. Of course you're not into reasonable debate, just hyperbole with a lot of exclamation marks.

Let's be reasonable. There's no way in hell we're getting Bryant for Benintendi. Whatever Theo was thinking, I know it wasn't that. There's also no way in hell we're trading Benintendi for Schwarber.
