  1. And now that you mention it, there was that little social media incident after Game 2 of the ALDS with Chapman appearing to be in favor of Joe's firing.
  2. No QO with Martinez - because he was traded in 2017.
  3. I'll predict Lester money for JDM - 6 years, 155 million.
  4. Valid argument, but yet to be tested in the market. Some GM's may be a little leery because not everyone was impressed by the big power surge and we just might see things go back in the other direction.
  5. There's no question that Hanley had the better career before we signed him. If you go by something like previous 3 or 4 seasons, though, Martinez has at least put up consistently strong offensive numbers for a decent stretch. Hanley was more like the human roller coaster.
  6. Horrors never cease, that's the sad reality of the world. RIP
  7. Stanton's contract is certainly too much, but he's one of the top position players in the game and he's young. I'll be really surprised if Miami has to eat much of the contract.
  8. Oh, I know. $200 mill is a joke IMO, and Boras is a joker.
  9. $200 mill? Good, my hatred and disdain for Boras feels born anew.
  10. I see. How many reports have you read that the Cardinals are interested in J.D. Martinez?
  11. As in Sam Travis Shaw?
  12. Yes, it's an awful tragedy, but it also has to be said: this was death by foolishly high-risk activity.
  13. Until the awful Cliff Years starting in 2021, of course. It'll be the end of an almost 20-year run.
  14. You're right, since 2002 there haven't been any teams you knew were toast before the season even began. That's a pretty impressive run.
  15. He's a little whacked IMO. He doesn't even have the Red Sox listed as one of the teams interested in JD Martinez.
  16. More sucky news. RIP
  17. You should see what Grandson's Grandpappy looks like...
  18. It's not so much the 'desperate dave' part, but Larry Cook's posts about Dombrowski being a 'pillow biter' and so on are a wee bit over the top. It brings to mind some of those old witty rejoinders like 'Hey, did the guy screw your wife or something?'
  19. Also, if you recall, just a few games after Bogaerts got hit in the hand, Farrell used him to pinch run (dubiously perhaps) and Bogaerts aggravated the injury sliding into a base.
  20. You gotta wear shades
  21. 2018 and 2019 to be precise.
  22. Like it or not, every Hall of Fame ends up as a Hall of the Very Good. It's more fun to have more inductees and more ceremonies, so the bar does get dropped a bit.
  23. Luis Tiant should be in, I think. His WAR is high enough.
  24. 1. Luis Tiant 2. Tommy John Surgery
  25. Carrasco was one of the best pitchers in baseball this year and is under control for 3 more years. He's got too much value right now to be traded for a return of JBJ.
