  1. Beats me. I read something about them wanting to keep Chris Young around because he was such a great clubhouse presence. Anyway it'd be pretty cool if Brentz gets a good shot in 2018.
  2. @PeteAbe 27 minutes ago Dombrowski mentioned Bryce Brentz as a prominent candidate for 4th OF. Castillo's contract (which would trigger a cap hit) appears to exclude him.
  3. FWIW Dombrowski sounds like he's not very interested in trading away players like JBJ, or prospects either...sounds like any major acquisitions will come by way of free agency...FWIW
  4. Man, what has the world come to when we actually trust the Yankees to be fully truthful about their intentions?
  5. Except there's a 4.5 year age difference between Pujols at the start of his 10 year deal, and Stanton at the start of 2018. Pujols turned 32 before he played his first game for the Angels. Now that was ridiculous!
  6. Will there ever be an end to all the vitriolic comments aimed back and forth by new school/old school people? It's crazy. We need to accept and respect that we all have different ways of looking at things. And in the end it doesn't matter...we're all just fans.
  7. It's not really a mystery - an elite defender with 2 .800 OPS seasons on his resume, and 3 years of control left.
  8. Paul Molitor might turn out to be a good one.
  9. Sounds right.
  10. Yes, I've been thinking about the comps with Manny too.
  11. I wonder who is the best player of all time to manage a team to a World Series title?
  12. 10 years is correct. Total owing 295 million. Originally 13 years, 325 million. AAV for tax purposes 25 million. Opt-out after 2020 (3 years away).
  13. How many out of 115?
  14. I try not to be over-influenced by the home runs. Too many balls were flying out of parks this year. But Stanton seems like a legit .900-950 OPS guy.
  15. If WAR means anything, Stanton instead of JBJ would have meant an additional 4-5 wins in 2017. But that's just one season of course. In 2016 it would have been a much different story.
  16. Home runs are overrated, I don't disagree with that. But Stanton's WAR is for real, isn't it?
  17. Every fan base has their share of dreamers.
  18. That'll be his next column, of course.
  19. We can't give up a lot of talent AND take on the whole contract. That could turn it into a bad deal.
  20. One thing he didn't say was that the Sox shouldn't sign Martinez, so apparently he's in favor of that.
  21. Oh, I hear you. I guess my attitude is, we can't just assume we'll get one of them, and we should be happy to get either. As we know, Scotty Boras likes to hold big splashy auctions and drag them out as long as possible. Remember Teixeira? Didn't sign until Christmas Eve or something like that. So it kind of makes sense to take our best shot at Stanton first. If it doesn't work move on to Martinez.
  22. Stanton is younger and a better fielder. But I'll take either one.
  23. Do you have a link to a report that St. Louis is offering full salary relief?
  24. Holy crap, this guy is more creative than moonslav!
  25. Seems like Ainge pulled off a hell of a coup getting Irving.
