    Just hope that Girardi didn't burn out some of those bullpen arms he leaned so hard on. And Betances had some serious issues at the end.

    The dilemma with Sale this season can be stated simply. Yes, we could have shaved some innings off his arm. In so doing, we would have risked not winning the division.

    I'm quite sure no one has ever said Price has a tear.

    He really wasn't. His defense was 'a work in progress' and he had good on-base skills but very little power.

    You do have to go through those game logs in more detail though. That June 10 11-3 game, for example, was tied 3-3 going to the bottom of the 7th. You also have to consider who would have pitched those innings when we took Sale out early. Probably Barnes, Hembree or Abad! Sound like fun?

    The 2015 world champion Royals had a phenomenal season from their bullpen, with a 2.72 ERA. In 2016 their bullpen had a 3.45 ERA. Lightning in a bottle...it happens, but you can't really count on it.

    Arrieta and Lackey are both free agents/goners. The Cubs will have a lot a money to spend and they'll need to sign at least one top starter.

    Although, given Sale's second half splits, I wouldn't be surprised to see his innings cut back next year - maybe 195 as a target or something like that?

    Chris Sale led the majors with 214.1 innings pitched this year. That seemed like a really low total for the MLB leader, and looking back at previous years I confirmed that the top number was generally 230 innings and up. So there may already be a campaign underway to reduce the workload of starters. And yes, it's ironic that Sale was #1 considering some of the discussions about how he tends to fade in the second half.

    With the right coaching Bogaerts could be a much better hitter, I think. He's shown flashes of excellence in all areas.

    His communication skills are very questionable. In fact, none of the players have heard a thing from him.

    mvp is a bit of a joker, shall we say. He's well aware that Pedroia's negative offensive rating was mainly a product of his awful baserunning numbers.

    You're going for the doubleheader of JF and DD.

    In spite of a hideous slump the last couple of weeks of the season, Pedroia still ended up with the highest OBP on the team by a good margin. That's one reason I'm not terribly inclined to knock his plate approach.
