  1. In 2013 Napoli had an ungodly 187 K's in 578 PA's. But he had a 360 OBP and a 482 SLG. Bottom line he had a solid season in spite of the K's. Some guys can do this.
  2. I think we all know Ohtani is going to sign with the MFY's.
  3. In his career with men on first and third, Duda has hit 375/458/736 for a crazy 1194 OPS. Perhaps more significantly, with RISP he has hit 231/375/433 for a respectable 808 OPS.
  4. Thanks Dave! I think.
  5. The offseason is a time for optimism. Accordingly: 1) Hanley's poor numbers last year were a result of his shoulder issues. 2) Shoulder issues are now 100% fixed. 3) Hanley will be much better next year. 4) Check back with me in May to see if I still feel this way.
  6. And when he signs I'll finally be able to say it...'Oh Duda Day!'
  7. There's no simple answer, really. We didn't clinch the division till the second-last day of the season so it was no easy matter to give rest to our best starter. We may get in the exact same bind again next year. Right now we're all optimistic that we'll be able to get him that extra rest - because the offseason is a time of optimism. That's the way I see it, anyway.
  8. The only real difference is one more year of data. I'll say this, it might not be possible to cut his innings back much next year either...it'll all depend on the circumstances. Did you look at that game thread from July when Farrell started Fister over Sale? It's amusing in light of this discussion.
  9. The positional thing with JDM is definitely an issue.
  10. I know you must have typed the bolded part in a hurry, because it's pretty much gibberish - 'a lot of the data gets older...huh?'
  11. Maybe Price's regular season innings have been mismanaged too.
  12. Why is Holt horrible at 2B? His career UZR/150 is +1.8, and +12.0 at SS. What numbers support that he is horrible?
  13. I don't think it's a coincidence that Dice-K's downfall began in a WBC year. In 2009 Dice-K won his second WBC MVP award, and there were stories about the Japanese team taking great liberties with how hard they worked him. That year he only pitched 59.1 innings and that was basically it for him.
  14. The reports seem to be that the Giants didn't offer all 3 of those players as a package. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/11/giancarlo-stanton-trade-rumors-moncay.html
  15. This is called being passive-aggressive.
  16. Swihart also had a fairly devastating injury in 2016, who knows how much it set him back.
  17. We'll see what happens. But the thing is, the Marlins are only trading Stanton because they need payroll relief. It's a salary dump, and a huge one. Normally when you dump salary you do not get much back in the way of talent.
  18. If you really want to do a proper comp with that Pedroia extension why not use WAR?
  19. I'm starting to think that if we have to give up any good prospects for Stanton we should just forget it and sign JD Martinez. I'd prefer Stanton but I'd rather we just took his whole contract and gave only a second-rate prospect or two. Of course it all depends what other teams are offering.
  20. Fun stuff to think about but I don't see any way it can work in reality. In this proposal Pedroia is giving up $28 million, not taking into account the present value of money factor which would be millions more. Plus the 28 year contract would be kind of an eye-raiser for MLB - the connection between the 2 things happening is just too obvious.
  21. You might be able to do that-if Pedroia was prepared to give up $46 million. (The second $10 million isn't even guaranteed.)
  22. You wouldn't really be fooling anybody with an arrangement like that. I imagine MLB would conduct a little investigation of some sort and would do something quite nasty about it, deeming it a blatant attempt to circumvent the luxury tax rules. The Sox would be penalized and thoroughly embarrassed as would-be cheats.
  23. Here's the game thread from the game Kimmi is referring to - scroll through a bit and you'll see there was a lot of complaining about Fister starting instead of Sale. I was one of the ones complaining. http://www.talksox.com/forum/threads/18304-7-20-vs-Blue-Jays
  24. Except Pedroia's salary would still count against the cap, right?
  25. I'm impressed.
