  1. Your point is not totally without merit, but... Morrison is actually guaranteed 6.5 million. I am guessing that Morrison's value was hurt by concerns that he was a one-year wonder, as his career numbers would suggest that possibility. A highly credentialed all-hit no-field guy can still make decent coin, as in J D Martinez. The bottom line with Hanley is, he still seems capable of putting up a 3 WAR season. And when you're the filthy rich Boston Red Sox in pursuit of a championship with a small window, you can't be concerned with f***ing around with whether Hanley's option vests. You go all out to win this year because that's what your fans expect and deserve, and if the option vests, that's show biz. I'm fairly sure a Yankee team in a similar position would do the same.
  2. If Holt puts together a few more good games like yesterday and gets his numbers up he won't seem to suck quite as much. That's the way it usually works.
  3. The incident should be over, really. If we start trading plunkings there's not only the risk of suspensions but of somebody getting hit in the wrong place by a pitch. No sense letting punks like Austin create those kinds of problems.
  4. Hanley says he feels good. Cross fingers.
  5. You obviously can't keep s*** in perspective, predicting 86 wins for a team that won 93 and added JD Martinez.
  6. Yeah, this 11-2 record is killing me. Still think 86 wins is a gift?
  7. Well said JF.
  8. Well, let's see, between 1918 and 2003 the Yanks won it all 26 times and we won it all 0 times, so yes.
  9. You are being far too fair and reasonable here.
  10. Anything in the physical world can be measured. The metaphysical world is a different story.
  11. Bradley singled off a 97.2 FB by Chapman in Wednesday's game.
  12. He's gonna be more consistent this year, mvp, you just watch... His K/BB ratio is looking much better this year, at least.
  13. Porcello can handle himself...we've seen that somewhere haven't we?
  14. Put me in, coach...I'm ready to play, today...
  15. It's easy to overreact early in the season. Things can turn around quickly. What I'm surprised about with the Yankees is how many of the pitchers are off to bad starts.
  16. The only concern is injuries. All of our religious folk should be praying for the health of our players.
  17. I absolutely agree with your concern for the health of the players. It's unfortunate that these 'retribution' incidents are part of the game.
  18. Kimbrel is one of the very best relief pitchers in history, without a doubt. Dombrowski might feel the same way. He did pay a lot to get him in the first place.
  19. So could spikes used with intent.
  20. Yes, Maine is quite a place. The fact it's the place Stephen King was born and has lived most of his life is totally appropriate.
  21. We may never get the full story. Personally I suspect that if MLB thought the slide was A-OK and that the Red Sox therefore overreacted, they would have gone a little lighter on Austin. But maybe I'm a touch cynical.
  22. There you go - Austin was found to be the bigger culprit.
  23. It appears the two players were judged to be about equally wrong, doesn't it?
