    I don't think it's too difficult to construct an argument that Ben's 2013 title was built on a combination of players he inherited-Papi, Pedroia, Ellsbury, Lester and Lackey, and the lightning-in-a-bottle short term success of Victorino, Napoli, Drew and Koji. There's nothing wrong with being lucky of course. But when Ben's luck went bad it really went bad.

    Unfortunately the team's disastrous 2014 season made the 2013 season look like it was indeed incredibly lucky. Just about everything that went right in 2013 went wrong in 2014/2015. Like Victorino, Napoli and Drew. Great seasons in 2013, but that was the end of them.

    Technically he didn't get fired. The change in his position was so unpalatable that he quit immediately. How's that?

    Which is just one of the reasons the 2013 team was somewhat miraculous.

    Nobody averages 7 innings a start anymore. Sale led the majors in IP at 214 last year - 6.7 per start. If ERod can average 6 that would be great.

    I normally agree with that sentiment about being spoiled. But you have to admit the results of the Cherington years were flat-out weird, especially 2012-2014. 69-93 (worst record since 1965) Championship 71-91 (2nd worst record since 1965)

    Ben is good at developing farms. Personally I think he's happy to be working out of the spotlight too.

    It's also fair to point out that the 235 million includes 55 million of dead money for Hanley, Pablo and Pedroia inherited by DD.

    The pitching staff Ben assembled for the 2015 season was not his finest work.

    There are 15 teams - doesn't 7 sub-500 teams seem about right?

    He drove in the only run in our second game of the season, a 1-0 win vs. Tampa. There, I found one, that's as far as I'm looking.
