  1. Kind of makes you pine for simpler times when they all settled for being chain-smoking alcoholics.
  2. And in 1986, the Mariners traded us Dave Henderson, who almost earned a Papi-like place in Red Sox history that postseason.
  3. Don't encourage the miserable SOB.
  4. They say we're looking for a right-handed bat and a reliever. It makes sense. And yes, there's a chance we go far.
  5. While we're on the topic of suspected drug users, if someone asked me to nominate the present or former Red Sox player that I most strongly suspected of smoking a lot of weed, it would be Buchholz.
  6. Devers has an .821 OPS over his last 16 games so his OPS is back on the rise a bit, in my cherry-picking Pollyanna view.
  7. And don't forget Duda...
  8. The Yanks have a slight edge on us in runs scored per game, 5.23 to 5.16.
  9. The Rays are not an easy team to score runs against, especially at their home dump. Over their last 10 the Rays have allowed only 27 runs, and that includes 4 at your place and 3 in Houston. I don't know how they do it, but they do it. Their offense is abysmal, needless to say.
  10. He can't just stay on his Yankee Game Thread, he gets lonely there.
  11. Nice thought, but a day at Talksox isn't complete until someone makes a silly trade proposal and Harmony assaults us with mind-numbing fWAR comparisons and multiple web links.
  12. I'm proud to say I was not one of those posters who said anything about 'moving on', I just wanted them to get it done. DD did his job.
  13. I suspect we won't be having any lectures from Jacko on our offensive woes today, at least.
  14. JDM has been unbelievable. So consistent, so much power. The power to the opposite field is of course especially impressive. He also seems like a good guy and a true professional. There's no poser in him. Any way they can put that first opt-out in the shredder?
  15. And baseball seems capable of producing bipolar disorder-like symptoms, but in a natural way LOL
  16. No doubt it's fun for the fans at the park, but to me it kind of epitomizes the whole 'pink hat' image of people who are there to have a good time but don't know crap about what's going on on the field. Excluding Slasher, of course.
  17. If you're a big believer in run support and good luck, you should go with E-Rod. The team has averaged 6.81 runs in his starts and they are 13-1 in his starts.
  18. You would start Johnson, seriously? I like him, but he would seem one of the most likely guys to put us in a deep hole to start the game.
  19. If Castillo plays extremely well the whole season, maybe the Red Sox trade JBJ in the offseason and Castillo is the 2019 CF'er. It's a possibility, at least.
  20. The good news is that Mookie looks like he's really back now. That could be the spark right there.
  21. We have a 50-26 record, tied for the second-best record in baseball. Normally a team in that position wouldn't be subject to as much criticism and analysis as this 2018 Red Sox team is. But of course the catch is, we're behind the Yankees, and if we end the season that way we have to play a damn Wild Card game. That changes the way everything is being looked at.
  22. I absolutely understand having a problem with Pedroia saying that in public. That whole situation was a mess. And I think Farrell made matters worse by doing nothing, just as he did with the Price-Eckersley debacle. This really belongs on the other thread, though.
  23. Linsanity! I'm in.
