  1. Yeah, we should never sign anyone to anything longer than a 2 year deal. Mookie Betts? Forget him. Little guy, already has oblique issues.
  2. When was the last time an elite position player was dealt at the deadline? Seems like it's usually pitchers who are the big prizes at the deadline.
  3. I'm with you on this Kimmi.
  4. You could question the Kimbrel use in Game 2 vs. the Birds, but Kelly was only used in tight situations in that series. One was with a 4 run lead, but the bases were loaded when he came in.
  5. d-money doesn't quite get the concept that if you're less s***** than the other teams it actually means you're good.
  6. I think the Sox would have kept him a while longer at least if it wasn't for the vesting option, which proved to be a real albatross.
  7. And he's been benched.
  8. Man, this guy has been having a rough time. Hopefully he gets back to full health.
  9. The way I see it, a lot of times a manager has to make a decision where there are arguments for a move and arguments against a move. Such as using Kimbrel in that second game. I suspect if you ran a poll on that decision here it would come in with about 55% supporting it and 45% opposing it or something like that. It's fun for us to debate these things. But it's the manager who has to make the actual decision and live with the results.
  10. No doubt he's made some mistakes. But if he was making a lot of significant mistakes, this thread would be rocking. And it's not.
  11. With Miggy out for the season the Tiggers might have a spot for Hanley now.
  12. 5 runs no. Needless to say there's some gray area here. I tell you what, I'd describe Cora's decision as debatable but defensible. Is that fair?
  13. Because Kimbrel is the best reliever in the pen. If it was a 3 run lead would you feel much differently?
  14. There would be a stat geek manager robot now too.
  15. There's also probably a 50% chance he won't be needed tonight. So that plays into it too.
  16. The bottom line is, it's very common for managers to use their closer with a 4-run lead. Obviously they're not too concerned about whether it's a 'non-save' situation. They want to nail the damn thing down.
  17. A 4 run lead is suspect IMO. When Velazquez loaded the bases in the 7th with one out, how comfy-cozy were you feeling?
  18. Kimbrel threw 23 pitches the game before, not 30+.
  19. Disagree 100%. 4 run leads can still go away. Closers are used frequently in 4 run lead situations. You could have the first 2 guys get on in a heartbeat and then the tying run's on deck and you've got Kimbrel up in the pen rushing to get ready.
  20. Not sure I understand. What explanation do you need on a safe/out call?
  21. I know right? Why would we want to derive any positivity from a 2-run jack?
  22. Yep, at this rate, by the All-Star Break he won't be able to retire a batter.
