  1. Well, maybe Leon wanted to discuss what pitch to throw, and maybe he called a bad pitch. Or maybe Machado guessed right on the pitch. Maybe it was a good call by Leon but Price caught too much plate. Do you know which it was?
  2. There is no doubt that the alabaster-faced billionaire has been a godsend. The best thing about Henry, besides his money, is that he's a legit baseball junkie who wants to win as many titles as possible.
  3. It's almost enough to make you think the guys who frequent game threads the most are miserable pricks to begin with.
  4. And I believe these 2 deserve a mention on this thread: Brady Feigl Brady Feigl
  5. In case any of you Seinfeld fans missed it, the Pirates currently have 2 utility infielders named Kevin Kramer and Kevin Newman.
  6. 'Valuable' has always been a problematic word I think. A fuzzy concept.
  7. I think the Jays announcing tandem of Buck Martinez and Pat Tabler are good. Buck can be a little annoying at times but they both know their stuff. And if the Red Sox are beating up on the Jays they don't whine about it, they give credit to the Sox.
  8. There was a runner a second, I would guess that was the reason for the mound visit.
  9. I'm not sure anyone can top Harold Reynolds for talking pure jaw-dropping nonsense. Last night or the night before he was raving about how overrated OBP is.
  10. Also, not meaning to be a wet blanket, but the 1912 team only played 154 games, and 2 of them were ties. They had 47 losses.
  11. The playoffs are the only thing that matters to me. Regular season W-L records are quite irrelevant except for getting you into the playoffs.
  12. The chump that wrote this has a serious grievance against the Giants LOL
  13. The Red Sox began 2014 with Bogey at SS and Middlebrooks at 3B. Middlebrooks got off to a lousy start, then got injured. They had to do something. Drew was still out there after his free agency fiasco and Ben was able to sign him for 9.5 mill, put him at SS and move Bogey to 3B. But nothing worked out very well in 2014, for whatever reasons.
  14. The fact that you're saying this based on a 4 inning sample in which he allowed 4 hits, 2 walks and 1 HBP kind of shows how we're feeling about the pen right now.
  15. Pretty sure he can't go 3-4 innings every 3rd day.
  16. I believe Hembree has the best numbers of any of the relievers for not allowing inherited runners to score, and that's why Cora has been using him in that role.
  17. Yeah, I'm sure a nice relaxing win like this one convinced everyone we're on cruise control LOL Obviously the math for the division is looking pretty sweet. But baseball is a tough grind no matter what.
  18. If you look at the WAR calculations, offense accounts for a significantly larger portion. That's why Xander has a big edge on Iggy, or on JBJ. I'm assuming that the WAR calculations have this right. If they don't have this important premise right, they're not much good, that's for sure...
  19. You're right. JD hitting 3rd 269 PA 318/383/594 - 977 OPS JD hitting 4th 316 PA 344/421/667 - 1088 OPS
  20. Barnes has a hip problem and is out indefinitely. Starting to look like DD may have made a significant tactical error thinking the bullpen didn't need to be upgraded.
  21. But the more interesting thing that's revealed is that the superior hitter gets the edge over the superior defender. Not because stat geeks don't value defense enough. Because you just don't get as many chances to truly make a difference on defense as you do on offense.
  22. Bogie is the superior player of course. The question is whether we'll be able to meet his free agent price. If we can't, Iglesias might be a possible candidate to replace him. He's become a fairly solid 2.5 WAR type guy at least...
  23. It's unreal how many young pitchers go down.
  24. I'd rather welcome back Buchholz.
  25. Season to season fluctuations like those are nothing new. The averages still work out to a pretty large 127 point difference.
