  1. Ugh. Only good news is Jays are up 5-0 on Yanks.
  2. Yeah, I guess Fragile Freddy had nothing on Brittle Buch.
  3. This team is really due for some early runs. In the previous 20 games they scored 16 total runs in the first 4 innings of the games.
  4. I guess we'll find out this offseason.
  5. Take another look. The $100M does NOT include any arb players.
  6. Let's define 'mega bucks' though. How much do you think the Yankees have to spend on free agents this winter?
  7. We'll see. I don't think teams that have re-set want to instantly put themselves back in what Jackso calls 'cap hell', either.
  8. Huh? Workman pitched 14.1 innings in August, compared to 12 for Brasier. 14.1 is a lot for a reliever these days.
  9. Don't you think this past offseason indicated that things might be changing to a certain extent? JDM got much less than expected. Moustakas almost got shut out completely. A bunch of teams just sat back and did nothing.
  10. But this is one of the things I like about Theo. He will make that big risky move sometimes. Sometimes it's not all about doing what's the most risk-averse. Sometimes you have to gamble. IMHO...
  11. Kimmi, another thing is that if Theo said that I find it very surprising in some respects. Foulke was absolutely instrumental in winning it all in 2004. And he pretty much sacrificed his arm that postseason. Also, we saw what Theo did in 2016, trading Gleyber Torres strictly to have Chapman for one postseason.
  12. In all the time you've been watching MLB-and I know it's a long time, like me-how many times have you seen that rule enforced?
  13. There's actually a very simple explanation. The bullpen hasn't been as bad as the game thread Negative Nellies say it is. The mistake is paying any attention to the Nellies. This bullpen has had some very ugly moments, no doubt about that. But the main thing is they have gotten the job done most of the time. There's usually a simple explanation for these things.
  14. Theo had Papelbon from 2006 to 2011. He didn't have to do any throwing stuff at the wall to find his closer.
  15. I wasn't talking about you, I was talking about MLB front offices. Supposedly, MLB front offices are having player acquisition decisions influenced more and more by the stat geeks. The stat geeks should be telling them that fat deals for closers are one of the worst investments. That might depress Kimbrel's market. We'll see.
  16. Yeah, I don't really disagree there. Dombrowski has some tough/interesting choices to make this offseason and next.
  17. But Davis is not having a good season. He's more of a cautionary tale than an inspiration to go in big on a closer.
  18. Brasier has been very good, in a small sample as you say. Kimbrel has been very good for a long time. There has to be something to be said for his kind of consistency and durability.
  19. We all should be.
  20. True enough, but you also have to look at all of our wins where Kimbrel recorded the last 3 outs, and think of what it would have been like if it was someone like Kelly trying to close out those games. Kimbrel has a 1.86 ERA for his career and a .92 WHIP.
  21. It's cherry-pickin' time! Bogey's last 57 games/55 starts: 316/397/568 - 965 OPS
  22. But that stats that year showed clearly that Pedro lost a big part of his effectiveness at about 105 pitches. Theo went over those stats with Grady before the game and I think virtually ordered him not to let Pedro go over that limit. Plus Timlin and Embree had stellar numbers that postseason.
  23. But Theo also signed Keith Foulke that offseason. And he signed a bunch of relievers this past offseason. So what do ye say to that?
  24. It's a great question.
  25. Betts, Sale, Bogey - assume an average cost of 31 mill. That's 93 mill. Price 31 mill. Kimbrel say 16 mill. That's 140 mill on 5 players before even getting to Beni and JBJ. It's gonna be tough.
