  1. Yes, the game thread regs are very demanding fellows.
  2. Yep. My order would be: 1. Pitching 2. Timely hitting 3. Defense
  3. To quote one of our game thread stalwarts, our manager is 'Corable'.
  4. Houston +251 Boston +220 It's relatively close. Last year Cleveland was +254, and I think they may have had the greatest second half in modern history. But it somehow didn't translate into a title... She's a funny old game.
  5. Devers season has been moderately disappointing but far from discouraging.
  6. The amount of bitching in this thread about Betts not playing is beyond belief. I think some of the game thread regulars will still be ragging on Cora for resting guys after we clinch.
  7. That's a compliment.
  8. Yeah, it's unreal.
  9. First someone please explain how DRS is calculated. I see that's it a component of UZR. Does it refer to only the more difficult plays?
  10. Absolutely. And it gets more favorable tax treatment, right? (In Canada you're taxed on only 50% of capital gains.)
  11. I think there's a lot of overlap with those two things. If you're spending more than you can afford, that's usually unwise (unless it's something you're forced to do).
  12. So spending like a drunken sailor isn't a problem then.
  13. I believe the implication is that drunken sailors spend more than they can afford to spend, whereas Henry can afford it.
  14. Maybe it's because you're not a gambler that you can be so sure about something like that. When you gamble and put serious money behind such statements you can get burned at it.
  15. If it was 100%, it wasn't a gamble.
  16. I hadn't even realized it was originally scheduled for 1:00 till just now.
  17. Well, you're admitting that it would have been a gamble.
  18. Is a hundred dollars the most you would risk?
  19. Yes, but the point was about trading Shaw when we had a 'glaring hole' at 1B.
  20. Here is a question to test the validity of such statements. Let's say that on August 6 you're in a bar and some Yankee fan starts chirping about how it's not over. You tell him it's over. He says 'Wanna bet?' He says he will bet any amount you want, as long as you give him 2 to 1 odds - which is more than fair under the circumstances. Let's assume that this guy is rich and trustworthy and all that - there is no fear of him welshing on the bet. What is the most you would have bet? You really have to try to answer the question honestly.
  21. 2016 stats Hanley Ramirez 866 OPS 30 HR 111 RBI Travis Shaw 726 OPS 16 HR 71 RBI Are you saying that at the end of 2016 it was obvious we had a glaring hole at 1B and that Shaw was the guy to fill it?
  22. Kimmi, you are a coupon clippin' penny pincher.
  23. The numbers so far suggest it's possible. But it's a little early to say, isn't it? The guy is an unusual case. He's a 30 year old rookie with 38.1 major league innings under his belt.
  24. But the fact is he has made huge money, especially in the market value appreciation. You don't think that was part of the appeal too? The goals of making money and having a pretty cool toy are not mutually exclusive. And he has also pretty clearly tended to use the luxury tax threshold as an approximate payroll cap.
  25. Hell yes, we're lucky with Henry. He's been the dream owner.
