  1. Well, I'm sure the words 'tax reset' and 'rebuild' are on JH's mind. The first question is whether DD is really a goner as the curly haired scribe thinks.
  2. With this team it might take the voodoo reanimation of Colonel Sanders.
  3. Agreed. But after those two were signed - nothing!
  4. I mean right from last offseason. If he was all in for 2019 I'm sure he would have told Dave he could sign some damn relief pitchers.
  5. I think Henry realized that 2018 was the year to go all in and suffer the penalties (including draft position). 2019-definitely not.
  6. So you're talking about who-Benintendi? He's been one of the few bright lights in this miserable stretch. (.900 OPS in July, .904 OPS in August)
  7. I really have no idea what Henry's immediate plans are. But I'm pretty sure his intent isn't to 'go cheap' all of a sudden. Henry is a smart man and he knows Sox fans won't stand for that when they're paying the highest ticket prices.
  8. George Steinbrenner's Yankees were able to outspend other teams by a massive amount though. The playing field is a little more level now with the revenue sharing and tax penalties.
  9. That doesn't mean much IMO. There's still a decent correlation between payroll and wins.
  10. Let's not forget that the current CBA expires after 2021. There may be an entirely different structure with the next one...and new buzz terms for us to use.
  11. What you're leaving out is that the Red Sox and Cubs are also 2 of the top 5 teams in franchise value and revenues. They're spending high because they can.
  12. What does the Sox PR department do that other teams' PR department don't do? They don't call it PR for nothing. It's to promote fan interest and generate revenue. What do you expect?
  13. Why would this season change his approach? Henry has been through a lot of ups and downs with us, great seasons and disastrous ones. The crazy roller coaster that the team is on really started with the collapse in 2011. Where he goes from here is going to be very interesting. But I wouldn't make any assumptions about what his plans are.
  14. Pinstripezac
  15. Price maybe. With Sale it's probably more important that he work on his game.
  16. He was a victim of roster shuffling and the fact they wanted to give Travis's bat a shot.
  17. No, harmony was hill on the other site, with the Harmon Killebrew avatar. harness was a character indeed. That guy was in pretty bad health IIRC.
  18. Rick Porcello's walk year has been more like a 'walk the plank' year...
  19. It's pretty much always been that way for this franchise, with a few notable exceptions.
  20. jung, I must point out that only 5 years ago, in 2014, the collective ERA of major league pitchers was 3.74! That was when people were freaking out that baseball was being dominated too much by pitchers.
  21. It's all about the rings.
  22. Got it.
  23. I think we have 3 Yankee fans posting here on a regular basis. 2 of them are not obnoxious in the least.
  24. I agree. It's not really fair to say on one hand that the ball is now a missile and on the other hand the pitching is now worse.
  25. Eovaldi had removal of some loose crap from prior surgery this year, correct? You gave us your diagnosis at the time. Also, Eovaldi posted some very good peripherals in the 2018 regular season, albeit in 111 innings: 3.60 FIP 1.13 WHIP 5.05 K/BB He added a cutter to his repertoire in 2018, I believe, which was credited with making him a better pitcher. DD did not sign him solely for the postseason heroics. Other teams were interested. You said at one point you thought the Yankees might sign him.
