  1. His 3 run jack in Game 4 of the WS was worth about $5 million.
  2. I'd love to see Sale finish strong, and maybe quiet some people down about how stupid the extension was, that's for sure.
  3. I'm not in favor of shutting Sale down at this point. I'd rather see him work on his game. Assuming he's fully healthy.
  4. Yeah, it makes you look smarter or something.
  5. Trading for a rental can be attractive, though, because a) you only do it if you're in the hunt; and you only pay one-third of their salary or so.
  6. Diaz is a pretty legit prospect, it looks like. Not my strength, as I say.
  7. Unfortunately that's not my strength. Have to dig up some comps from the past, for starters. Machado brought back 5 prospects last year. As to their quality I can't say.
  8. Conversely, the Yankees didn't add any starting pitching at the deadline, which everyone was convinced they were going to do, but there were no adverse effects. Hate to say it but the doofus has been having a pretty good year - so far.
  9. This lines up with some comments Cora made after the series with the Dodgers, talking about what a good game plan the Dodgers offense had and suggesting that they were better prepared than the Red Sox were.
  10. They did add Cashner.
  11. A thought that occurs to me is that Brian Cashman may have really gotten the jump on the rocket ball thing this year. All of a sudden the Yankees 'home run or nothing' approach looks brilliant. According to Jax, Cashman has been hunting for guys with high 'exit velocity'.
  12. What might make the most sense with Mookie is trading him at the July 2020 deadline, unless we're in contention for the division (ha ha).
  13. Right on all counts, I'd say.
  14. That's an excellent question - sounds like one I would ask myself! On the offense side, the overall numbers look good, no question. And certainly the offense carries less of the blame. As a general observation, it seems like the offense is not quite as 'relentless' as last year's, or this year's Yankees. They have big outbursts that pad up the numbers, then go quiet again. In the first 3 games of the home series against the Yankees they exploded. In the 8 losses that followed they were nothing special. The other things you have to look at with the position players are defense, baserunning and mental errors or lack thereof. Benintendi and Bradley both seem slower on D this year, for example.
  15. Based on the Harper and Machado contract overpays, Mookie has little to worry about. Position player, so less risk than a pitcher - check. Charisma factor - check. No known injury issues - check. If Mookie gets to free agency I think we're probably out.
  16. When it comes to the blame pie, rotation or bullpen, I think whichever you pick, you're not wrong. And if you pick both, you're doubly right. It's what you might call a clusterf**k.
  17. Those are all pretty good guesses about the Sox issues.
  18. You're really just throwing stuff out there. Obviously one of the posters you're talking about who approved of this year's bullpen was Kimmi. And she doesn't give up until we're mathematically eliminated.
  19. Let's just compare our 2019 ERA splits to our 2018 splits: 2019 Starters 5.08 Relievers 4.46 2018 Starters 3.77 Relievers 3.72 Increase Starters 1.31 Relievers .74 The starters have gotten worse by 77% more than the relievers have.
  20. You keep bringing the Yankees into it. It's true that their bullpen is much better than ours, and that the strength of their bullpen offsets the weakness of their rotation. But their bullpen was much better than ours last year, too. The difference is that last year our starting rotation was much better than theirs. It was expected to be the same this year. We were supposed to be constructed more like this year's Astros pitching staff, whose strength is in the rotation. I don't disagree that DD neglected the bullpen this year or that it cost us some wins. But you're so fixated on the bullpen that you can't see that the real disaster has been the starters.
  21. You have to be kidding. Rick Porcello 5.54 ERA Chris Sale 4.68 David Price 4.36 Eovaldi injured Cashner 7.53 Other spot starters - horrendous Yeah, sure, 'influential posters' are just making up stuff about the starters to cover up for the bullpen.
  22. Wouldn't that include the extension for Bogaerts?
  23. You still really think it's more the bullpen than the starting pitching? I think it's actually been a while since the bullpen blew a game. The starting pitching has been so bad, the bullpen doesn't really get that chance...
  24. Not trying to diss what the Dodgers have achieved in recent years, but... I'll take our 4 titles in this century to their zero, any time.
  25. So I guess you're not a fan of Theo Epstein then.
