  1. The pen should not have affected the rotation at all. What affect could the pen have had on Sale and Porcello this year? I think that's just grabbing at straws.
  2. Yeah, especially if you're a Sox fan staring at a 4-game sweep, an 8-game losing streak and another night and day of screaming for heads to roll.
  3. Balls and strikes mistakes can easily be abolished. It's coming. A lot of folks won't like it, and I get that, but it's inevitable.
  4. We're also 6 in the loss column back of the Rays, who you said were gonna go away. Crazy game.
  5. Sure. I didn't mean literally zero pitchers.
  6. The change will probably come when you least expect it.
  7. But I wouldn't call him near-MLB-ready when Ben left. I'm talking about our prospective staff for the year 2016.
  8. Welcome back, Hopper. Where ya been?
  9. So what's wrong with guys like JD Martinez and Christian Vazquez and Brock Holt and Brandon Workman? What do you find wrong with how they're 'carrying' themselves?
  10. Now don't get all offended, jung. You also said this in response to my post: 1) Red Sox, 25 players, 25 Limos....true since Yawkey was the owner and it STILL drives the mentality of this club. Frankly, we are as much to blame for that as anybody What that wholesale jab at the franchise had to do with my comment I have no idea. You also called Henry a 'walking cadaver'. So I'm defending his record a little, yes.
  11. We've had a nutty schedule this year. And some of it is our own doing. The London series added more off days that would not normally be there - and right before the All Star Break.
  12. Seriously. The thing about baseball is, you often play 7 games in a week. In football that would be almost half a season.
  13. It's the same old story, jung. Losing makes you look bad. Somehow these same guys won 119 last year. Somehow John Henry has been in place for 4 titles while the Yankees have 1 in the same time frame. But now it's the Sox who are a bunch of idiots and the Yanks really know what they're doing. Yeah, right.
  14. I think that's all a matter of subjective interpretation. I think the team gave the FO some hope with those 3 straight clobberings of the Yanks. It's an ongoing enigma how they could then turn right back into crap and lose 7 straight.
  15. We really shouldn't go down this road again, but it does give us something to yak about. I don't really believe Cherington had a 5 year plan. And if he did, I don't see why it included signings like Panda, Hanley and Castillo. Ben left a lot of capital prospect behind, no question. But he left virtually no pitching, either at the major league level or in the near-MLB-ready category.
  16. Well, there's an easy counterargument. The Yankees, much to the astonishment and complaining of their fans and media, did even less than us at the deadline. But it had no ill effect on the team's play.
  17. Yes, I agree. Not being critical of moonslav, but there should be a category for 'Indifferent', or 'No Significant Change'.
  18. Please elaborate about the deadline stuff, Cynical Sam.
  19. They need to go to Mookie in the offseason, offer him an extension and tell him that if he doesn't accept it they have to trade him. But do it in an honest, respectful way.
  20. Make it 1/3 each then.
  21. But if we sign him for an arb price of $10-11 million, will we be able to trade him, or trade him without eating some of the money?
  22. I'm 99.9% sure that deferred money will not be part of AAV for tax purposes after he retires. I believe that under the new CBA, AAV of contracts with deferred money uses a present value calculation on the deferred portion. It's the only thing that makes sense. Under the previous CBA, Scherzer signed a contract with a huge amount of deferred money, but there was no adjustment for it. Actually now that I look at it, Scherzer's AAV seems to be discounted too.
  23. Boy, you're really on a roll with the insights lately.
  24. We had a lead that year, though.
