    The word 'ace' is a big problem to begin with. It seems to me when anyone talks about a 'true ace' they're talking about a guy who's on a Hall of Fame track like Verlander and Kershaw. Chris Sale has been a huge disappointment this year but I think there's still hope he can pitch at an elite level.

    As part of my duties as Forum Clarifier, I will point out that notin's post was about Castillo, not Bradley.

    One crazy thing about Castillo is that, according to B-R, he becomes arbitration-eligible in 2022. Which seems to indicate that for 2021 the Sox can pay him league minimum. The other crazy thing is that he turns 34 in 2021.

    That's just really silly, jung. The last thing I want to do is praise the Yanks, but they won 100 last year and they're on pace to do the same this year in spite of a ridiculous number of injuries to key players. They played the Stros tight this year. Houston won 4 of 7 with a run differential of +2. The Yanks are 12-5 against the Rays and 4-2 against the Twins, and of course 8-4 against us. So they're playing well against the other good teams.

    No, the deferred money is discounted to present day dollars and that's it.

    Sale's increase in AAV is actually 10.6 million. The AAV of his new contract is 25.6 million, it's reduced because of deferred money.

    I don't really know what that means. Like I said earlier, in the last 4 games they scored 6, 5, 5 and 4. With decent pitching they should have won 2 or 3 of those games.

    If the offense puts up 5 or more runs they're doing their job. It's not their fault that they're still behind 7-5 going to the 9th and can't pull it out of the fire.

    Well, after the 19 run onslaught vs. the Yanks we scored 10 and then 9. Then we scored 6, 5, 5 and 4 and lost them all. With decent pitching you should win 2 or 3 of those 4.

    No doubt the combination of Fenway Park and the Manfred Missile is a frightening combo for our pitchers.

    Earl Weaver had the classic comment on team meetings. He said he didn't believe in them because, if you have a meeting and still lose, then what do you do?

    Disagree there. The offense is putting up plenty enough runs to win games. It's just that the pitching is so bad that even 5 or 6 runs may not be enough.
