  1. But this team is not in a great position compared to a lot of other teams right now. And there are some tough decisions to be made. I think Speier has some basis for what he's saying. He's not one to just pull stuff out of his ass.
  2. Thanks Kimmi. I promise not to call on you unless it's an argument emergency.
  3. Personally I'd be happy if he did, Tyler. But I think we're in the minority.
  4. "Impossible to satisfy demands" is just the writer, Alex Speier, speculating on why candidates to replace DD might shy away from the job. It's pretty hard to argue that Red Sox ownership, fans and media aren't extremely demanding.
  5. I don't think 'dysfunctional mess' is an accurate representation of what's being said. Here's an excerpt from Speier's story, which is the same story that floats the idea of Theo returning: But there’s skepticism in the game that several of the executives with such a track record — Arizona’s Mike Hazen (the former Red Sox executive who just signed an extension with the Diamondbacks); Oakland’s Billy Beane and David Forst; Chris Antonetti and Mike Chernoff in Cleveland; Andrew Friedman of the Dodgers; or Jeff Luhnow of the Astros — would leave their jobs to pursue another that is increasingly perceived as unstable. While the resources that come with the Sox job are appealing, the ouster of Ben Cherington less than two years removed from a championship and the departure of Dombrowski after one down year have led to a perception in some corners that the position comes with impossible-to-satisfy demands. "Impossible-to-satisfy demands" seems to be the key phrase.
  6. It's Big Dick's Last Stand.
  7. MassLive.com is reporting that Baseball America has the Red Sox system at #22 in its new rankings. But I can't give any links. The BA site is a pay site and the MassLive site is awful.
  8. FWIW, there's a lengthy article in the Globe today speculating that Theo might very well be on the list of candidates to replace DD.
  9. How did that bum JD do last night? Some more stat-padding, I suppose.
  10. HAHAHAHAHA good one.
  11. Will you "ever" give up?
  12. Probably because it's not easy to throw for a strike, and if it was every pitch, JD would let them go for balls. I think it's a pitch you have to set the hitter up for.
  13. ??? Marco Hernandez throws right, bats left.
  14. The Sox also used 3 pinch-hitters last night. It might not be a 100% effort, but it's by no means blatantly not trying.
  15. The thing is, though, Cora usually has reasons for why guys are playing or not playing. It's just that nobody bothers trying to look into them. It looks like Leon played because they've paired him up with Chacin. Gorkys is playing because Beni is hurt. That covers 2 of the 3 wiffle bats right there.
  16. Tito's a smart man. He can see what kind of pitching staff we have right now and that we blew leads in the 3 games we lost in Tampa.
  17. You're doing good work. My only counterpoint would be that it seems like it's the last 5-10 years the AFC East has been really putrid - not all the way back to 2000.
  18. If you mean that, your FOM (Fellowship of the Miserable) card should be in the mail.
  19. To the best of my knowledge the Red Sox did try to win the games in this series. They won one of them and the losses were by 1 run twice in extra innings and 3 runs once. They didn't hand the games to the Rays. I also believe that the players that were rested were ones who were 'banged up', generally speaking.
  20. As Shaughnessy keeps pointing out, the Pats have also benefitted from playing in a cream puff division for a long time now.
  21. Your eyes aren't lying, but the stats aren't either.
  22. 3 points, all of which are pretty obvious, I guess: 1) The games of football and baseball have vast fundamental differences. From what I gather, the Belichick approach is to tell players to learn their playbook inside out and give 110% physical effort, and you can stick around. If not we move on to the next guy who approximates you. 2) The Patriots have Brady. 3) The Red Sox are the most successful MLB team this century, just as the Pats are the most successful NFL team. The Pats are MORE successful, inarguably, but that's tied into the fact that a team can dominate in football for a longer period.
  23. The season is over now so it doesn't really matter that much?
