    Porcello had an awful season. Like Dewey, I don't really think he's a 5.5 ERA pitcher and I won't be surprised if he bounces back nicely next year. It's his durability that will really be missed. He's a guy you never have to worry about taking the ball every 5th day - a very rare commodity now.

    This Chandler Shepherd pitching for the O's is a guy we cut loose in May and has had horrible numbers this year.

    It seems to go with the territory when you're a Sox fan, though. We saw our team go from last to champs to last only a few years ago.

    I'm not convinced about the 5-6 year thing. Henry is smart enough to know that some unforeseeable stuff with the pitching went wrong this year and derailed our chances.

    Agreed, it does depend on how you define success. We're not in a horrible position, is what I mean. As long as Henry and Werner are still deeply committed to the team, as long as they make a good pick to run operations, as long as that person makes good decisions, and, as you said, as long as we get lucky... Bottom line, there are good reasons for hope. Whether the hopes are fulfilled only time will tell.

    But if the decisions made going forward are really smart, we should be OK.

    I would argue that in 2016, 2017 and 2018 it was worth it. 3 straight division titles in a tough division is no small feat. And winning one ring in 3 shots is a pretty good deal too. Winning any titles at all is not that easy.

    Olney and Rosenthal are fairly high up the food chain as reporters, but they know that it never hurts to play up the dirt a little.

    Also worth nothing is that Werner backpedalled a bit on the tax reset, saying that's the goal right now, but they might choose not to do it, depending on circumstances.

    The piece about the Sox re-setting next year includes this statement, BTW. Strictly to placate the fans or dead serious? So, does that mean Betts is destined to depart? Not at all, per the organizational leadership. Though Betts has made clear time and time again that he’s not interested in an extension, Werner says the team intends to actively pursue further extension talks this winter — and has already reached out to Betts’s agent to get the ball rolling.

    Yeah, except for the 119 wins and parade in his rookie season, it's been a disaster. How's the heroin BTW?

    That would be a monster raise for E-Rod. Not that he doesn't deserve it, but that seems a little disproportionate. They only gave him 4.3 mill after a pretty good 2018 season.
