No, it was a gem. A 3 year contract for one of the best closers in history, and only the first 2 years, and $24 million, was guaranteed? Come on, that's a gem all the way.

I'm with mvp. Boggs is my all-time least favorite Red Sox player of any note. I even dislike Clemens less than Boggs. I have to admit that I would like Boggs better if we had won it in 1986. Which may not be fair, I realize. -

Will had the ungodly 5-1 ratio. Chavis was 4-1 overall, but from the end of May on he was 5-1.

Chavis looks so much like Middlebrooks 2.0 unfortunately. Tons of power but his K rate is brutal.

Relax, swami. They already said that re-setting is a goal, not a mandate. And even if they do re-set, it's not mandatory to punt 2020. Plus E-Rod can be dealt at the deadline or next offseason if they choose. There are a lot of options. You know very well they're not trading him this offseason.

Kimbrel was the best bullpen acquisition in team history. DD may have gone overboard with what he gave up, but the contract itself was a gem.

Poor Kershaw. One of the great careers, but he'll be haunted by postseason nightmares. Especially this one, I think. He blew the season for them, no way around it.

If you want to do a straight-up comparison between Ben and DD, you have to include a comp of the team's record for their 4 years. Ben - 1 title + 3 last place DD - 1 title + 2 divisions + 1 3rd place

In DD's defense, I think he actually tried. He didn't trade any major prospects in 2018 or 2019 (not that there was much left).

He harvested them in 2016, 2017 and 2018. That was 3 seasons - and 3 division titles.

Decimated means destroyed. It's not generally used to refer to a resource that has been utilized to advantage. Sticking with the farm analogy, when farmers harvest their crops they don't usually call that 'decimating' their farm. Semantics, perhaps, but I think we all know what we're talking about here.
