But even having 'good, cheap players' from the farm has a pretty short window now. It does if it's a really top player, at least.
Mookie will end up getting paid about 60 million for his 3 arb years.
That's not exactly cheap.
I would say Dombrowski UTILIZED the farm, or EXPLOITED the farm, to get us 3 division titles and a championship. And no, I'm not complaining about it.
Which doesn't mean I'm unaware of the importance of the farm or that it needs improvement.
Henry did say there were differences with Dombrowski that started right after winning the World Series in 2018.
How specific do we really expect him to be?
It's a no-win situation. If Henry starts enumerating all the things DD did that he disagreed with, does that make anything better?
Red Sox fans used to whine because they couldn't win the World Series.
Now they whine because although they won the World Series, they spent too much money doing it, or traded too many prospects.
(A post specifically designed to stir up trouble. )
And Theo did his part when he traded Torres for a rental of Chapman in an arguably even bigger overpay. So the Yankees, Dodgers and Rockies can blame DD and Theo for getting hosed by Chapman, Jansen and Davis. Sound right?
With Mookie, there is one slightly chilling scenario, which is that his intention is to go somewhere else no matter how much the Red Sox are willing to pay.
I'm not ignoring the prospects. My sole point is that the contract on its own was a favorable one. FanGraphs says he was worth $46.1 million for the 3 years, compared to the $37.5 million he was paid.
