    Not at all. Rosenthal clarified that the deal was pending between Miley and Buchholz. My opinion of Buchholz is not as biased as yours clearly. My point isn't that they should have been rid of Buchholz, but rather further fortified the rotation. The guys with pitchforks whenever someone mentions that he has sucked (and he has) are you and Slash. I mean, he could turn it around at any point, but he's been terrible. Just a little bit of objectivity in accepting criticism towards Red Sox players makes discussion a lot more enjoyable.

    Multiple sources including MLBTR specifically stated that the Mariners were choosing between Miley and Buchholz. Deal framework was already in place, but they hadn't decided on a starter. You are interpreting it that way because you are trying to defend Buchholz. Obviously the "hung up the phone" part is hyperbole played for laughs, but the Mariners clearly chose Miley over Buchholz, for the reasons stated here ad nauseum.

    6 IP, 9 baserunners, 3/4 K/BB ratio, 7/13 GB/FB ratio, 1 HR (3-run bomb) allowed. So let's see: More BB's than K's (check), more flyballs than groundballs (check), WHIP of 1.50 or more (check), a homerun with 2 or more men on base (check). Yup, all of the signs of a terrible start are right there. Just because he was lucky to not give up more runs doesn't make the start any less terrible. Let's call a spade a spade.

You don't want to believe it because you want to defend picking up Buchholz' option, even though I have agreed it was the right move

    It's acceptable when there aren't four runs allowed, a WHIP over 1.50, and a home run with two or more men on base involved. It was not a good start by any objective measure. Saying otherwise is intellectually dishonest.

    Bat path and load timing issues are real things. I'm a forward thinker myself, but I've been around scouts and kids long enough to know how a moving-parts swing affects the ability to catch up to velocity, and how an inefficient bat path can create contact and swing-and-miss issues.

    The statement was "he's been terrible all year". But you're somehow trying to counteract that by saying "Well, he's had two good starts", which doesn't diminish the fact that he's been terrible. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

    I would've traded Clay for a Smith type and kept Miley, who provides unspectacular, but high innings amounts. I've been preaching since the offseason that having two rotation spots inhabited by naturally frail guys was a recipe for disaster. Pittsburgh and the Orioles actually made great trading partners thanks to their deep stable of relief pitchers.
