  1. Teams with dire pitching needs before the season: Orioles (Yes, intra-division, I know) Rockies (always) Astros Angels Oakland (eating a portion of his salry) Pittsburgh
  2. Bro, we have been complaining about Buchholz here since before the season began.
  3. Dombrowski bitches!
  4. Not always, but mostly.
  5. Exit velocity/line drive rate/BABIP mostly share a positive correlation, but some guys (Ichiro, Juan Pierre) made a living for years off of "running swings" which help inflate the number of infield hits on badly-hit balls. Ichiro could do it while still hitting the ball hard consistently, which is almost an inhuman ability.
  6. Maybe just not suck and sport a 6+ ERA? You know, you don't have to be completely insufferable to make your point. It's not like Buchholz complaints are coming when he's pitching well. He has been terrible.
  7. Brian Bannister probably threw his hands up in frustration with Buchholz multiple times already. Buch's problem is between the ears.
  8. It depends on how you define success, because in baseball, sometimes success is dependent on luck. If a guy's stinging balls all over the place but they're getting caught, should he change his mechanics? Also, in jbj's case, I've heard some analysts/scout types say (granted, they're from here, so not your typical ESPN guys) explain long swings as "slider-type" bat speed (read that in scouting reports from the states too), as in, mechanics with unnecessary movements and inefficient bat paths that make it hard to catch up to big velocity, forcing the batter to cheat on fastballs, then be easily beat by breaking balls.
  9. You should agree with UN's points, since he's the one who brought them up first. (Not a knock on Dojji or harmony, but it's a "challenge accepted" type debate between ol' Bell and myself)
  10. Well it would be pretty nice if he didn't give up a bunch of homers (or one with 2+ men on base) and walked the ballpark.
  11. Oh I'd clearly take him, since he can eat a lot of innings. I'd just rather they buy someone with cleaner mechanics and with a more consistent run prevention profile.
  12. You can't even park right, your opinion doesn't matter.
  13. Don't like the peripherals (.247 BABIP, 79 LOB%, 15.7 LD%). The K's are back, but if the BABIP and LD% normalize to career averages, the ERA will shoot up along with them. Also, Teheran has had trouble maintaining consistent mechanics since late 2014 (a problem some attribute to the Braves organization as a whole, but that's another discussion).
  14. Like Pomeranz and Hill, not a believer in Teheran anymore. Pomeranz looks like the stud they expected him to be a couple years back.
  15. Side-point: Did you know several guys over the years have been suspended over steroidal or PED-type compounds found on OTC medications and certain workout supplements? Considering that Ortiz has had precisely zero PED-related problems after the infamous failed tests kinda leads one to conclude that it was probably a mishap with that type of substance.
  16. You take that back.
  17. It's not about it helping you s***. It's about it being goddamned delicious!
  18. Do I have to take out all of you? Raisin Bran all the way.
  19. It's also a simple and indisputable fact that WAR isn't the be-all end-all in valuations, especially in real life. Wanna know why? Because an ace in run-prevention for 120 innings means more often than not, a sub-standard pitcher covering for the rest of the IP that pitcher fails to provide. You can't see value in a vacuum when a player does not provide full-time production. Again, if the Mariners had the choice between Buch and Miley (this is provable fact, as it was reported everywhere) why didn't they just go for the higher WAR guy? Because roster construction doesn't work like that.
  20. Is that TOTR acronym really going to stick? I hope not. As for the rest of the argument, they can and will phantom DL Buch. They've done it before, and they're all-in on winning right now, so they're not going to remove a hot pitcher from the rotation to protect CB's feelings.
  21. But Miley averages 198 IP since he became a full-time starter. What's that I hear? Is that the sound of the Mariners laughing over the phone and telling the Sox they don't want a half-season starter? Sure sounds like it.
  22. That's not the same as anyone suggesting Wright should lose his rotation spot. As of right now, Buchholz is the odd man out.
  23. If they had interest in Buchholz, he would be a Mariner.
  24. I haven't heard/seen/read anyone anywhere even suggesting Wright go to the bullpen.
  25. You wish it was Pedroia Tradeness.
