  1. 8/210+. The exact figure was not known, but it was around a 27 million AAV. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/writers/jon_heyman/02/15/cardinals-pujols-negotiations/index.html One of many sources.
  2. Varitek should not even warrant consideration.....yet. To become an MLB manager you should be obligated to pay your dues as a coach or at the MiLB, which 'Tek hasn't done.
  3. And accept less money and years than what the Cardinals already offered him?
  4. I've personally mentioned it myself in earlier posts, specially the fact that Ellsbury's stolen over 40 bases several times, and Pedroia has averaged near 20 every healthy season. The good runners had the green light with Francona.
  5. It has been noted several times that several Red Sox runners have the green light most of the time (Pedroia, Ellsbury, Crawford just last year) but people keep saying the same thing over and over regardless of how many points are made to the contrary. Absolutely incredible.
  6. Unfortunately, you're not objective at all.
  7. I apologize for calling you a dumb-ass. It was a mix-up of "semantical" nature.
  8. Pwnag3.
  9. What he won't do is beat Rivera's contract, which is what i've been talking about all along.
  10. He's talked about setting the market, period. A benchmark, most money ever, etc etc etc. Why would i be talking about this year when it's clear that he'll be the best-paid closer? Even if he comes back at 2011 salary, no one else will break 12 mill.
  11. Congratulations to the Cards.
  12. Bro, i should not keep wasting time on you, but i will, just because you seem to need help with basic definitions. When Papelbon spoke of setting the market for closers, he meant highest AAV for a closer ever, and unless you live under a rock, i'm certain you know this. He will not break Rivera money this year, which is what everyone's been referring to here. You either got caught in a moment where you didn't understand what was being talked about and didn't have the balls to backpedal, or you do live under a rock. Don't be a dumb-ass please.
  13. Fantastic combination of both idiot and baiter.
  14. 13-14. Not setting the market, and not a very large increase from his 2011 salary.
  15. Pretty good strawman. What i initially said is that he won't set the market for closers, because he's not worth that much money, and chances are he won't. You're grasping at straws to debate the undebatable.
  16. He'll get three years, but he won't set the market for closers all time, which was initially what he wanted. Is he going to get it? It would take a miracle. Is he going to get above 12? Sure. Set the market? Nope. I don't see why you're over analyzing this.
  17. Is that what was said? Where? I don't see it.
  18. Wut? He is worse mechanically than both Salty and V-Mart. Worse than Montero the jacksonianmarch dude probably pulled out of thin air.
  19. A manager can only take his team as far as the talent level allows them to. The Padres are, as of right now, a AAAA squad, and the Blue Jays are a decent club, but they play in the AL East. Let's keep it objective.
  20. What does this mean exactly?
  21. From Scott Lauber, Boston Herald: Do it.
  22. And Marky Mc must be smiling seeing his personal project bang clutch hit after clutch hit.
  23. Salty had a BA under .250 (.238), slugged .450, had an OBP under .300 (.288) walked 24 times and struck out 119 times (close to the benchmark set by OP) and is below-average to average defensively. Who else could it be?
