  1. This team needs to find pitching, not trade it away. Don't let chicken-and-beergate cloud your judgement of the role Beckett should play for this team next year. Also, no way the Sox would get market value for Beckett. The idea is not logically sound. Also, how is this team not building from within? Papelbon, Lester, Ellsbury, Pedroia, Bard, Lavarnway, Youkilis, Reddick, Doubront all homegrown with possibly Kalish joining in 2012 and Middlebrooks in 2013. The problem is not signing FA or making trades, since closing the possibility of exploring outside talent to build a team is (and i don't mean it as an insult, just the honest truth) downright stupid. What needs to happen is a change of how the FO evaluates free agents and how they fit with the team.
  2. Wilson was converted to starting out of necessity, it was a indeed a gamble, albeit one that paid off, so i fail to see the point of the comment. The point isn't necessarily that Bard will get ruined or will suck, or both, but that not only are there options with a proven track record in the FA market, but we actually have a guy that has experience starting in Aceves. No real reason to try to fix what isn't broken. From an objective standpoint, there are a lot of things that can go wrong
  3. CJ Wilson was a starter who was converted to the bullpen because of arm trouble, other than that, this was pretty much pulled out of thin air. Ogando and Masterson were both starters who ended up pitching relief.
  4. I don't think you're considering how difficult the transformation from RP to SP really is. The same argument that you use about his tiny sample size as a starter should be reason for worry, because he's never had a starter's workload for a full season over his career. That, imo, is a recipe for disaster, but let's see what happens.
  5. Sometime during 2012. Usually all it takes with young guys is for something to "click" before they take their game to the next level. Perhaps it will happen with Iglesias next year. He has the swing and the athleticism to be a decent offensive player, but his approach sucks.
  6. But is the possibility of him becoming a good SP worth the gamble of screwing up the bullpen and Bard himself in the process?
  7. UZR has him at 0.7, right around the average. Even with a slightly negative D-War (which is not accurate down to the decimal number by the way) the fact that Scutaro provides positive value is undeniable. Can Iglesias do the same right now? Probably not. Scutaro is the superior option until Iglesias is ready, which hopefully will happen sometime next year.
  8. I don't understand people's fixation with Cuddyer. Most of his value comes from his versatility. He's not that good a hitter.
  9. Woah, talk about hyperbole. Also, Masterson still lacks a quality changeup. He's good, but i don't think he's 2011 good without a reliable pitch to get lefties out.
  10. It was mutual, and he declined his part of the option, becoming a FA.
  11. I don't agree with making Bard a starter either. I just don't see the issue with his mechanics since he became a reliever, and would like to know if there is fact behind the opinion, since it's not the first time i've read about it in a forum, but nothing concrete. More of a curiosity thing.
  12. How do you know about his mechanics? Did you read that somewhere? Not meant to disregard your opinion, i just think he's sound mechanically, and if he isn't, i'd like to see evidence to the contrary. Did he specifically say this?
  13. Reddick is a better bet to stay healthy and produce than Sizemore by the way. Sizemore is lefthanded.
  14. Aramis Ramirez sounds nice.
  15. Bard was brutal as a starter in the minors, and i don't see what would indicate that his stuff would translate well to starting or his stamina would be enough to become a good starter. I obviously don't know about his conditions as much as the organization, and they've floated the idea around, but why not go for the sure thing with Aceves, who has started before? Also, we need more pitching, we don't need to trade one of the effective SPs we have. Everything else, i agree with.
  16. He can build value elsewhere. The Sox need at RH hitter who's healthy. The FO's love affair with fragile players/damaged goods need to end, even if the contract is short.
  17. I wouldn't get mad with Willingham either.
  18. Who's going to give him more with his history?
