  1. Yet strengthens the possibility of Beltran.
  2. People don't seem to understand that extremes are bad. If you're a Theo ballwasher you're an idiot, but if you're an illogical Theo basher, you're an idiot as well. It's not that difficult: He was a good GM, but he made mistakes like every other GM. The "Theo was the worst GM ever" rethoric gets tired quickly. If you want to see bad managing check out the Cubs, Baltimore, or Seattle, all teams with money that suck ass and haven't won anything in forever (see what i did there, Cubs fans?) yet the Sox win 2 WS championships in a decade, and field a contender every year. What more do people want? A couple of good breaks in 2010, and this team makes it all the way. In 2011, the team had some construction flaws, but it's still a solid core that, with a few improvements, could go all the way. Theo sucks? GTFO. Theo was the best ever? GTFO. Logic people.
  3. You're kind of a douche aren't you?
  4. Actually, this isn't necessarily true. While Stolen Bases are part of the formula for calculating WOBA used by fangraphs, it is merely a small percentage of the total value in the formula. Usually, low OPS guys have good WAR numbers if their defense is excellent, since it has a much higher actual value than stolen bases, being a component by itself.
  5. Replace Albers with Bard, and Kazmir is a long reliever/ reclamation project. He bombs (and he likely will) you have insurance in Webb (who should be all the way back) Doubront, and Tazawa (who should also be all the way back.
  6. I think he could. Maybe not as good as Drew (as much as we hate on him, the one thing he could do was play D) but i think he would be an above average defender. Besides, it's time the FO stops screwing around with Ellsbury. I also think he could give Crawford a breather in LF against tougher lefties if he can play the wall, and DH would be open for Youk/Lavarnway in those instances.
  7. The thing is, you could rotate Beltran/Youk/Lavarnway in the DH spot given the fact that they would all capable backups. Beltran will go where the money takes him.
  8. What moves, in your opinion, should the Red Sox make in order to make 2012 a successful season? List your moves (As real as possible please) as well as your 2012 starting 25-man roster. Mine: Let go: Ortiz, Drew, Varitek, Wakefield all gone. Sign: Edwin Jackson (3/36) Carlos Beltran (2/27) Papelbon re-signed (3/39) Joel Peralta (2/6) Mike Gonzales (2/8) Jonathan Broxton (Incentive laden one-year contract) Scott Kazmir (Stash him in the minors) Brandon Webb (Stash in minors) Andruw Jones (Incentive laden one year deal) My 2012 initial 25-man roster, if all goes right, would be: C: Salty/Lavarnway 1B: Gonzales 2B: Pedroia SS: Scutaro 3B: Youk LF: Crawford CF: Ellsbury RF: Kalish DH: Beltran Bench: Salty/Lavarnway Lowrie Reddick Jones Rotation: Lester Beckett Bucholz Jackson Aceves Bullpen: Kazmir Morales Gonzales Broxton Peralta Bard Papelbon Just throwing some thoughts out there.
  9. A ransom he will not be worth. He's wild, and that weak division masks his shortcomings. If they're going to go big, don't do it with him.
  10. Dude (Soxsport) comes here mouthing some antiquated ******** about sabermetrics without having a clue as to what "Sabermetrics" actually entails. Learn what they are then comment on them, until then, stop spreading false information.
  11. The man was a true dirt dog.
  12. Things can change without blowing up the entire team. Get a RF who can hit righthanded, a strict manager and pitching coach, sign a couple of good bullpen arms, move Aceves to the fifth spot, and sign a #4 starter to go along with some reclamation projects who can provide insurance for the rotation. /minimalist offseason. If they can find some good trade opportunities for some of the current guys for at least market value, then do so, but trading them "because i don't like them, waaaaaahhhh" doesn't cut it.
  13. Not necessarily. The Braves, with their stash of young pitching, need offense. So do the giants, who may give up Cain, the Marlins also have a couple of arms (highlighted by Anibal Sanchez) who are about to get expensive. There are options in both the trade and FA markets to acquire a good #3 pitcher, but overpaying for a guy who walks 4 per 9 inning should not be one of them.
  14. No thanks. And yes, it's reactionary because you're advocating for the team to be blown up. Please.
