  1. So because the team has too much of something, it's okay to add to the logjam? I don't see the sense in that. Also, consider this: Over the last three years Sizemore has played 210 games (average 70 per year) with a .234/.314/.413 slash line, which Reddick surpassed last year, and he will make a fraction of what Sizemore is primed to get, so he is not an upgrade in any sense of the word. If a team wants to take the chance on him fine, but he doesn't fit with the Red Sox.
  2. Cherington publicly stated this like a week ago.
  3. Nice addition to a club trying desperately to get a RH corner OF because the lineup is too LH? Dude hits lefties at a .661 clip for his career.
  4. I don't think Kemp is realistic either. Ethier is probably a more plausible target, but then again, he's another guy coming off of injury who's had problems handling lefties.
  5. Yeah, that's not happening.
  6. How would he be low risk? He would require a significant investment, is very frail due to his chronic knee issues, and how do you realistically get him and Cuddyer? Sizemore has also shown an inability to hit lefties throughout his career (.691 career OPS against them) exacerbating a potential weakness against lefty pitching for the Sox lineup next year. Pass. Without thinking twice about it.
  7. Cabrera's been gone since 2004. Let's focus on Scutaro, who by the way plays 3B in addition to SS and 2B.
  8. He may just be one of the five worst hitter in the Majors. His half-season in Toronto last year (2010) was a fluke. Fielding percentage is not a good indicator of defensive ability. On letting him walk in 2004, it was a blunder by the FO. They thought Renteria was the better player and were wrong. Don't think it was a money thing. Because of the need for stability, keeping Scutaro, who's proven he can produce on both facets of the game (weak arm notwithstanding) for the Sox seems like a great idea.
  9. Neither is. Gonzalez is a better defender, but can't hit a wrecking ball with a light pole, and Cabrera has been on a steady offensive and defensive decline for years. At the current going rate for FA, Scutaro's production for $6 mill is a bargain.
  10. I'm not disagreeing with you, but i'd like to know who's right in order to know where the Sox stand for next year.
  11. Farewell to one of the greatest managers of all time. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/10/31/tony-la-russa-retires-_n_1067164.html
  12. Cherington has gone on record saying the Red Sox are going to try and acquire a RH hitter for RF. Expect one of Willingham/Beltran/Cuddyer to end up in a Red Sox uniform
  13. First off, thinking that Martinez can turn around Crawford is pure conjecture. Second, even if he could, that should not be a "priority" management should be looking at, the top priority should be winning ballgames by getting the most out of players, and Crawford is just one of the players.Tightening up the clubhouse and maximizing the performance of an embattled pitching squad are priorities A1 and A2 IMO. Martinez could be a good candidate, but we don't know a lot about the guy.
  14. Today, in a brand new edition of "News that should surprise absolutely no one": By Peter Abraham:
  15. Mackanin would also be a good choice, according to what i've read. He supposedly has a very high baseball IQ and is also a no-nonsense kind of guy.
  16. What i meant was Maddux as manager alongside a strong pitching coach.
  17. Well that's pretty much my point. They're likely to go back to a Farrell-style pitching coach, so i thought that to be an implicit part of the Maddux idea.
  18. Those "pink hats" are what allow the Red Sox to be amongst the top of the league in payroll year-in, year-out. I hate Sweet Caroline, but it's not the end of the world.
  19. This team needs a manager who is not only capable of being a disciplinarian, but also has enough knowledge of pitching to influence this pitching staff and get the most out of this group. While Martinez is endorsed as knowing the AL East and being able to fix Crawford (which is complete conjecture by the way) even Maddon has said that it may take him time to get used to the spotlight of a big city. Not a good omen. If it was up to me, i'd try to pry Mike Maddux from Texas. Excellent pitching coach who's tough and diligent with his pitchers. Has a reputation for being meticulous and allowing no nonsense among his ranks. Also plays in an enormous market, which could help his transition to Boston. That's just me.
  20. The sense of superiority and entitlement some Red Sox fans have is amazing. When you throw the "pink hat" label on anything you wouldn't see at a game in 1934, it kind of loses its touch. Yes, I like the music. That being said, I'm 19 and I don't remember going to games where there wasn't, so it could be just the way I was brought up.
  21. Pipe dream. Pujols stays put. 8/230 CC re-signs, 6/150 Wilson re-signs, 5/100 Ortiz re-signs 2/24 Bell re-signs 3/30 Reyes to Angels 6/120 Papelbon remains a Red Sox 3/39 Cuddyer re-signs 3/40 Fielder to Cubs 6/130 J-Roll re-signs 4/40 Madson re-signs 3/30 Buehrle re-signs 3/45 Jackson to Red Sox 3/30
  22. I don't understand this line of thought. Could you explain it to me?
