  1. Did you actually read the job post you're quoting? Bradley has exactly nine more plate appearances than Pedroia had when he was first called up, and Pedroia still needed another month + to adjust. Other than that, yeah, a 4th OF who can play center and hit lefties would be a good idea.
  2. That's because many people lack patience with prospects and get extremely whiny if everything Red Sox related doesn't provide immediate production. These are the same people that wanted Pedroia to get benched when he was struggling.
  3. Darvish is the complete opposite. He's a power pitcher through and through. You're wrong comparing him to Matsuzaka etc.
  4. But who says he'll be that? Therein lies the problem.
  5. Wishful thinking.
  6. Also, Gabe Kapler is a serious stathead. That blows my mind.
  7. I love how quickly people have turned on WMB because of essentially a bad half-season. Less than a season ago, all of this praise and "i think he's a keeper" comments were directed at WMB. A cautionary tale of the struggles young players are bound to have when adjusting to the show, with certain notable exceptions.
  8. He doesn't throw as hard, and scouts think his stuff is simply a tier below, especially his fastball. So yes, that would constitute decidedly inferior, and yes, i will take scout's opinions over yours. By the way, here's an excerpt from Gabe Kapler (yes, that Gabe Kapler) from foxsports regarding Tanaka immediately counteracting part of your point: And here, he quickly counteracts the second: Basically no, Tanaka is not in the same level as Darvish. That's not necessarily a knock on Tanaka, since Darvish is a freak, but it's ridiculous that he'll probably be commanding more money overall. Btw, here's the linky to the Kapler article: http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/kapler-expect-tanaka-to-land-big-bucks-in-unprecedented-bidding-war-122613
  9. This is actually pretty spot on i have to admit.
  10. Spot on. I'd also add the fact that there is an adjustment period for these guys coming to pitch on a different mound/different sized ball/different amount of rest. Darvish is a freak of nature, and even he had some growing pains his first year. For a guy that's decidedly inferior in Tanaka's case, you are likely throwing out that first year out the window from the get-go while he adjusts to the league.
  11. Thanks for trying to explain things to iortiz, but like SoxSport, he insists on either not making sense or being an outright idiot. /endrant will continue to ignore iortiz.
  12. Cabrera was ACTIVELY TRYING TO BANG OTHER PLAYERS' WIVES. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that's a pretty good reason to let someone go in FA. Then again, here at talksox we apparently need rocket scientists to complete even the most menial of tasks.....
  13. The absolute statement: "Every player who hooks up with Boras is looking for max money" is incorrect. Because, for one, absolutes are always incorrect. And second, we have several examples (Jered Weaver and Mark Teixeira being two of them) of players taking less money to stay or go to places they want to be, so he is indeed entirely incorrect.
  14. What are you even talking about? They let Cabrera go because he was both chasing skirts and Renteria was a clear upgrade. Get a clue.
  15. Repeating the same incorrect idea over and over again does not make it correct. Not every player who latches on with Boras is looking for max dollars only, as presented above. Stop spouting nonsense.
  16. Awful pitching. Fred is no stranger to selective memory in order to drive home a clearly incorrect point.
  17. Yeah teams certainly don't show a lot of "loyalty" to their players when the going gets tough.
  18. Yeah that's why Mark Teixeira and Jered Weaver took less money to sign/stay in places they wanted to be. Varitek re-signed with the Sox after 2004 for 4/40 but would have probably found more money/years elsewhere. I don't get this mercenary ********. Players have every right to cash in on their opportunity for a big payday, and none of us know exactly how these proceedings go or the players' preference (in general) for a particular team or situation. Please stop.
  19. They let Cabrera go because of a bunch of drama between him and other players because he was supposedly he was hitting on other player's wives. You read enough Cafardo to know this, so don't ignore it in order to make your "hard-hitting" judgments and criticisms.
  20. I love the irony of a Yankee fan preaching the virtues of patience to Red Sox fans (and this has been going for a while regarding the whole Theo/Cubs subject). Shows what's wrong with a significant portion of the Red Sox fanbase. Anything other than instant success means failure, even if it's part of a long-term plan.
  21. He just signed with someone (Dodgers i think). Bummer.
  22. Because dealing Carp/Nava and getting Gregor Blanco is Dojji's new binky.
  23. That's not funny. It's also stupid. Please stop.
  24. It's possible he could reach those levels in his prime. He's certainly got the approach for it.
  25. You clearly still don't understand how "TV money" works.
