  1. Common sense is not a strong point for some here.....
  2. An "inside source" was the one who said the Cubs would "not be outbid" for Tanaka and would be willing to go that high. The quote never came out of Epstein's mouth.
  3. I mean, giving up 8/200 for him would be insanity, but a 6-year contract a bit above market value would certainly make sense, even if it's a gamble.
  4. If you don't understand what i mean by lack of a "consistent thought process", J_E just described it perfectly.
  5. I don't "love" Epstein. I used to love him while he was here. Now that he's gone, i just like to respect his legacy. Also, my problem with your assessments is that you take pride in your business knowledge yet you love to play the "blame game" when assessing baseball organizations, and that's not how it works. For the record, as i stated before, a move for that much money can't be propelled by either Theo or the GM, it has to be ownership backed, and if you know as much as you say you do about the subject, then you know this. In closing, signing Tanaka for 200 million will be a s***** move regardless of what he does, because it's too much money. If they sign him and he provides good value it will have still been a bad move from THE CUBS ORGANIZATION. Unlike you and some here, i don't flip-flop on my opinions and maintain a consistent thought process. That is all.
  6. Interesting question.
  7. Since when do they HAVE to deal WMB?
  8. Well played Palodios. Well played.
  9. You do know he's not the GM of the Cubs right? Your crusade to s*** on Epstein at every possible turn with some frankly silly arguments is kinda tiresome dude.
  10. The Chicago Cubs are not Theo Epstein. That much money would have to be an ownership propelled move.
  11. I think WMB will struggle a bit while they rework his approach/swing, so he'll spend time in the Minors and end up in a part-time role in a preparation for a full-time role in 2015.
  12. 1/10 max. If he can't be had for that, he can go somewhere else. And the truth is, i don't think he'd be a backup.
  13. The hilarious thing is that the first person who'd come out whining about the "FO's incompetence for not having a plan in case X/WMB struggled" is Fred. And he would deny it vehemently until someone came into this thread and called him out on it, at which point he still wouldn't shut up about it.
  14. I don't think you even read the post. You just picked out the part you thought resonated with your argument. We shouldn't "need" him, but he's clearly an upgrade.
  15. I think we should look at it as a 5/150 deal. Because NWIH he's not opting out unless he gets hurt.
  16. ...and are willing to give up a draft pick for him. That's the real problem. Some team would have upgraded if he didn't come with the draft pick attachment.
  17. That high?
  18. Draft-pick cost. And he's not an "above average SS" in quotation. He's an ABOVE AVERAGE SS in caps.
  19. Of course he is, now that his options have dwindled to the point where only the Red Sox are a realistic landing point.
  20. Money talks. That's why Cano is a Mariner.
  21. The plan is probably to get him then trade Samardzija for a monster return, as Palodios had Theo-rized (heheh) before. I personally don't buy into the Tanaka hype either, but a lot of clubs are very high on him and are willing to pay top dollar for his services.
  22. That would be pretty much any big market in the US. And i'm sure a mountain of money from a lesser city would change her mind anyway.
  23. They can all get enough AB's. And counting on WMB as a sure thing is a recipe for disaster given his 2013 struggles. Fred just needs something to whine about, and he's found his new whine-binky in Drew. It's ridiculous.
  24. Several reports throughout the offseason have quoted the Cubs FO as saying they "will not be outbid" for Tanaka (granted others have said the same thing, but i digress) lending credence to your theory.
  25. I haven't actually caught the whole thing, but plan to do so today.
