  1. Power without on-base ability is like a fat chick with big tits, or a skinny guy with six-pack abs.
  2. Yeah, but they gave up a ton to get him, and hitters with power, but poor defense and no on-base skills aren't that hard to find.
  3. Larry Lucchino. For all the s*** you (and lots of people) talk about Epstein, his model was working perfectly until the power struggle started between the two of them, and that very same model is what got the Sox back to the pinnacle of baseball.
  4. Rockies trade Drew Pomeranz for Brett Anderson. Now watch Anderson pitch less than half-a-season and Pomeranz pitch to a sub-4.00 ERA. Book it.
  5. Trumbo is terrible. Besides above average power, he does nothing particularly well.
  6. Are you talking about Bauer? If so, he was traded for Didi Gregorious, Lars Anderson and Tony Sipp, none of whom play the OF.
  7. He won't even have as much trouble staying healthy if he's used judiciously in a backup role.
  8. Unlikely. What they're losing on offense, they will make up with a full year of Peavy, and barring a catastrophe like the injuries to Bailey/Hanrahan, an improved bullpen. Try a little positivity for once.
  9. You're right, he's 1.88 meters.
  10. I thought he was 6'0.
  11. If you have elite stuff, size isn't all that important, as Pedro Martinez, Tim Lincecum and Tim Hudson have shown. The problem is that Tanaka doesn't have elite stuff, per all accounts. What's really impacted by size in pitchers is durability, and that's just another point against Tanaka.
  12. What is his "caliber"? Dude hasn't thrown a single MLB pitch. A #2 ceiling isn't worth 20 million a year, even in this market.
  13. He isn't. He's clearly not nearly as good as Darvish. I don't see what all the fuss is about, and it's not about his size. He's bigger than Pedro. It's about stuff (of lack thereof)
  14. Except that that's exactly what the rumors said smh.
  15. The Sox don't need Choo, just like they don't need Tanaka or Stanton.
  16. Pitcher wins are a terrible way to judge pitcher effectiveness for one. Yu Darvish was arguably the best pitcher in the Majors and won 13 games. As for being wrong about Tanaka, i very much disagree. You're clearly overvaluing him. Clearly. Darvish is by far the better pitcher. How do you justify paying an inferior pitcher much more money?
  17. This is your typical response when confronted about one of your player crushes. It's not "my opinion only". There is a basis for emitting this idea. Besides the fact that you have to pay up the posting fee, the Yankees will drive up the price to the 100m + range. Who is the safest bet to live up to a 100m contract? A proven commodity like Choo with several 20/20 seasons under his belt and elite OBP skills, or a guy who hasn't thrown a single MLB pitch? Not only that, but history shows there is an adjustment period coming over from Japan, so you would essentially be punting year one in terms of overall production. I'm not advocating signing Choo. I am saying that when you say the "only" two players that the Sox should look at are Tanaka and Stanton, you are clearly wrong, because Tanaka is a bigger question mark than Choo. Sorry if that sounds "pompous" by the way.
  18. That trade is the definition of a pipe dream.
  19. Tanaka would probably end up being a worse investment than Choo fyi. The problem is that you have an infatuation with the guy that clearly doesn't let you see that.
  20. Mike Carp is a LHH.
  21. And prevent a lot of them too.
  22. Media had a field day with that one.
  23. Yeah probably.
  24. You sign a guy coming back from injury and let him work back into game shape. By the time he's ready to pitch, the logjam will have probably worked itself out.
  25. He was Lucchino's signing, per accounts. Lucchino seemed to be the rotten apple and the target of most attacks, so they're riding on the same boat. As for the Baker point, it is a fair one, but that makes the allegations from Wedge and Blengino no less controversial.
