  1. Luca Brasi is going to make him an offer he can't refuse.
  2. Shag Crawford was an umpire.
  3. Being good enough has nothing to do with how long one plays for today's Red Sox. Just take Betts for example. Dewey would not have played right field in Boston past when he became eligible for free agency. Bloom would have traded him at his first opportunity for three prospects only one whom would have made it to the majors and then himself traded the next year for a mediocre reliever.
  4. Renfroe and Evans both had cannons for arms. Dewey went through his struggles at the plate. Evens was a better defender but then again he played right a long time and grew more familiar with the nuances of right field in Fenway. Renfroe played there one season. I think if he played in Boston as long as Dewey he would have been as well regarded as Dewey is today.
  5. I think he will better at left out.
  6. D minus in effort.
  7. Failing to build a playoff team at the deadline then Bloom should have made every effort to get below the lux tax. I think that failure is going to force him to stay below the lux tax in 23.
  8. On that we agree.
  9. The jury is still out on Story. But Bloom replaced two solid hitters with nada and left a hole at 1st. Let the bull pen implode. How many blown saves this year, too too many. He traded a clutch hitting catcher who was a clubhouse leader He demoralized the team. The team today is worse than the team that finished 21.
  10. JD is having a bad season.
  11. Story was a Bogey insurance policy who quite frankly has shown to be a streaky hitter. Re Renfroe et al, So what that Bloom got them last year, he let them leave this year.
  12. Last night: Devers played poorly as did Bogey who made a bone headed base running move. JD looked like Robbie the Robot at the plate. The new guys are the ones showing life which is to be expected playing in their first Yankees Red Sox series. The only pre deadline Sox who showed any life wss Verdugo. They may show sparks now and then but collectively this a disheartened group Even Cora is beginning to show the signs of despair. He looks like crap on TV.
  13. Watching this team play, one can see morale and spirit slowly drain game after game. Bloom has sapped all the joy. The players knew the front office effectively abandoned them in spring training when there was no real effort to replace Renfroe and Shwarber's bats and no serious effort to shore up the back end of the bullpen. Supposedly Bloom wanted Pham and could have had him before the season but did not move on the deal, why?
  14. JD is looking robotic again. Same swing same plane regardless where the ball is pitched.
  15. All the national networks,Fox TBS and ESPN suck broadcasting baseball. This Fox crew is not as bad as the awful ESPN. ESPN is consistently bad.
  16. Speaking of John Henry's whims. Over the years he has proven that he will fire someone the second he determines that an individual is not suited to his future plans. Bloom will be fired. The question is when.
  17. OB is insufferable. By himself, he will destroy NESN's ratings.
  18. Cora does what the front office tells him to do. Let's not pretend he has autonomy to make position changes. Everything he does has to be run by the analytics boys in Blooms office. They sign off on the daily lineup despite what Cora may say.otherwise.
  19. You are conflating having former left fielders such as Yaz for example transition into 1st baseman late in their careers to what is happening today. Today Bloom is stocking his team with multiple utility players who can play anywhere as well as trying to convert guys like Codero Dalbec et al.into playing positions they are not well equipped to play. Having one or two utility players on the 40 man roster is a good thing but one can carry it to an extreme. I think Bloom is over doing it.
  20. If you check the published record after Bloom was hired, it talks about him bringing the Rays " mix and match "" philosophy to Boston. Mix and match is exactly what he has done since coming here. In watching baseball for more than 65 years I have not seen this much moving guys all over the place as I have seen the last couple of years.
  21. I do not think Cora had anything to do with it. Reading reports coming out baseball ops.they are all about versatility and wanting late inning options. The advantage to Dalbec is that he is cheap. Whether he can play the position very well is immaterial. It is all about Blooms philosophy that anyone can play anywhere.
  22. One wag said the Red Sox are putting in a water softener in the locker room so Sale won't get a concussion showering in hard water.
  23. Watching the Braves tonight really shows how far the Sox have to go.
  24. Most of his acquisitions suck. When you dumpster dive most of what you pick is garbage.
