  1. JH has other fish to fry
  2. Re farm systems, I wonder how many Astros fans are upset that they have the 27th ranked farm system and wish to trade places with Orioles with the number 1 ranked Farm System. Also how soon will the Os make the World Series 5, 10 15 or 20 years?
  3. He deconstructed the 21 team. Building the farm would have come naturally in any case.
  4. A team playing well against teams with sub 500 records.
  5. Boston fans tend to over value their stars and under value others especially those who play in markets in fly over country, out of the major media spotlights.
  6. Bloom has done nothing to warrent optimism. An isolated deal here and there does not a championship team make.
  7. He and they will run out of excuses
  8. Look what John Henry has done in the past ten or so years. In 2011, he bought a virtually bankrupt Liverpool team of the English Premier League and turned it into a championship. Now estimated to be the second most valuable team in the English Premier League and 5th worldwide valued at 4 billion usd about the same as the Red Sox. In 2020 or thereabouts he tried to totally reform world soccer that bid failed. So he turned his attention to buying the Penguins of the NHl for 900 million. Now he lets LeBron James buy in to the Fenway Sports Group in preparation for a bid for NBA franchise. Yes so I guess Henry does have other interests beside the Red Sox.
  9. Who knows what JH thinks. He may not know himself.
  10. If Bloom were to be fired I suspect the real reason will be because he did not make the playoffs yet he went over the lux tax threshold. If he had stayed below the lux tax I think he Henry would tolerate not making the playoffs. But Henry will or will not fire Bloom because of reasons peculiarly his own.
  11. If Bloom were fired, that would not surprise me. If he were not fired that would not surprise either. When it comes to his GM or Chief of Baseballl Operations whatever, Henry has proven to be quite mercurial. The case against firing Bloom is really the same as the case against firing Dombrowski. Both did exactly what they were hired to do. One thing that Henry should be concerned about if he fires Bloom is the perception that he is an unreasonable owner who fires people for doing exactly what they were hired to do.
  12. After watching a game at that dump in St Pete I wonder why anyone would want to be a Ray's fan.
  13. The article did.
  14. Cashman must have the negatives or photos in a Swiss bank safety deposit box along with audio tapes.
  15. Henry hired Bloom to do a job in a particular way. If Henry thinks Bloom is not doing the job that he was hired to do then Henry will fire him. Also if Henry thinks the job needs to be done differently from the job that Bloom was hired to do, and Bloom is not the person capable of doing that different job the Henry will fire him.
  16. To business folks like Henry money is a tool. They will spend whatever is necessary to achieve their desired objectives. The Padres objective is to win it all. They are tired of being in the Dodgers shadow. If spending 300 million and gutting the farm to get there they appear prepared to do so. The Phillies likewise feel they need to spend big to make a run at the title. That is the reason they hired Dombrowski. They know his track record. The Red Sox because of the four titles are in a different place. Henry does not feel the need to spend as much as he has in the past. That may change in a year or two. When it does I have no doubt Henry will commit more money than he has today.
  17. Bad enough that they thought he would help them in the first place.
  18. LOL. Watching Davis pitch I thought to myself "Yea he looked like an ex Pirate pitcher."
  19. Only when it doesn't cloud good judgment. Let me put it this way, last night's win was better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.
  20. Ok Barnes pitched well against a triple a lineup. I am happy but not impressed.
  21. Not really, the only good thing was the win. Here is how some of our key players have been doing: Some results from the start of August through the Yankee series last weekend, Xander - .208-1 homer, 4 hits JD - .205-0-6 - not including 0-2 Tues Raffi - .167-3-7 - not including 0-3 Tues Duran - .179-2-8 - not including 0-3 Tues Hosmer - .192-0-2 - not including 1-3 Tues Plawecki - .103-0-1 Like I said before JD continues to look as if he is auditioning to play the robot in Lost in Space. Devers swings from his heels on every pitch and Bogey with few exceptions looks clinically depressed. Cora appears exhausted. What really saved them last night was a Pirates pitcher who could not throw strikes and a Pirates defense that could not catch fly balls. Hey I loved the win. But I am not thrilled about how they won i
  22. Ok Boston won last night but I would not get too excited about what Barnes or any other pitcher did. Just as Eck said, Pittsburgh had a Triple A lineup. Let's keep everything in perspective.
  23. Really How is one to know?
  24. I believe our conversation was about outfielders. But if you want to talk about tropical diseases ,I hear dengue fever is bad this year in the Guyanese bush country.
  25. He was not an outfielder.
