  1. Relative position within the MLB universe is immaterial, the Red Sox aren't competing with the other teams in baseball for the New England sports dollar. They are competing with the Bruins, Celtics, Patriots and even the Revolution. Right now, John Henry appears to be focusing his financial resources and personal time on acquiring an NBA franchise. He recently bought the Penguins in the NHL. To be sure the Red Sox and specifically Fenway Park is the most valuable jewel in his crown. If he sees attendance and public interest in the Red Sox wane significantly because he has ignored the team, then he will authorize an increase in the budget IMO.
  2. Currently the Sox are averaging 32k per game. Except for the covid years that the worse they have done since 2002. If you listen to games on NESN you hear promotions to boost ticket sales, you haven't heard in 20 years. During Spring Training, you could actually walk up to the ticket office and buy same day tickets. The ballpark was 3/4 full. That hasn't happened to us in the past 8 years. Red Sox nation isn't happy. They are showing it at the box office. Regarding NESN, I think the loss of Remy and the fact they can't find anyone to partner full time with O'Brien has depressed viewership greater than just the deterioration of the on field performance.
  3. What he writes may be speculative but then again so is every major league deal ever made. As to being hogwash that is because it deviates from your narrow relatively uninformed world view.
  4. That is why you are largely uninformed about the Red Sox
  5. Anything that deviates from your world view is speculative hogwash.
  6. You are an uniformed scrub because you read only the Globe. On sports I read the Globe, Herald, the Athletic, Baseball America and various websites I listen to MLB radio, Mlb TV, Weei (which is the Red Sox flagship radio station) the sports hub as well as ESPN.. NESN of course because they broadcast the games.
  7. That is why he is distracted. The Red Sox only account for half that value. A sizable portion of which is Fenway Park itself with an estimated market value of nearly 1 billion dollars. Btw average attendance has decreased to levels not seen since 2002 not counting the covid years. He sees more opportunity for financial growth elsewhere which is why he let LeBron James and his partners buy into to FSG in March. These are facts you learn when you read something other than the Boston Globe exclusively I also suggest everyone read what John Tomase just posted on the NBC sports Boston. It is a spot on analysis of the Red Sox situation. and raises interesting question as to why Alex Cora may not wish to stay around.
  8. Just read that the Fenway Sports Group is valued at about 10 Billion dollars as of January 2022 making it the third most valuable sports empire ahead of the New York Yankees. Think of those numbers when you hear Henry and Kennedy cry poormouth.
  9. There has been a great deal of chatter coming out of Boston since the beginning of the year that Cora has less discretion on the lineup than in years past. The analytics and match ups play a huge role. But it can not be lost on anyone that Bloom has particularly signed players to play out of position. Hence Duran in Center, Franchy at 1st Arroyo everywhere. The FUBAR that has become the daily lineup machinations seems to give credence to the idea that Cora is not in absolute control of the lineup.
  10. Watching Bloom playing guys all over the place, outfielders playing the infield and infielders playing the outfield etc. One can not escape the conclusion that Bloom thinks that ballplayers are interchangeable. It is no wonder that with so many guys out of position they play like a bunch little leaguers. It can not be good for morale or their self confidence.
  11. True IMHO This site tends to be more interested in numbers. .The opinions of sportswriters and former ballplayers tends to be devalued.
  12. Oh you do not think John Henry is capable of planning more than a day at a time. Henry is a strategic thinker. He plans years ahead as anyone who has a rudimentary knowledge of his business career can attest.
  13. Read the post again. The answer is obvious.
  14. Now I get it anyone who deviates from the Henry party line including a former all star pitcher is an agitator. Let no new information upset your comfort zone.
  15. You should know that baseball people hardly ever say things directly. They speak in broad generalities. It is their tone, innuendo and actions which give away their true intentions. If you heard Pedro's entire statement you understand clearly his meaning..
  16. I do not think it bothered Henry at all at the time because he kept doing it. I think the reason why Henry wants to economize now was because he wished to marshal his financial resources to pursue business opportunities outside of baseball which he does from time to time.
  17. If you want to play you got to pay!
  18. You realize that Henry owns the Globe?
  19. Merloni, Mazzarrotti, Ken Rosenthal John Heyman, Sleve Buckley, Peter Gammons, Sean McAdam , Dan Shaughnessey and Rob Bradford all appear on Sports media. None of them know anything or have nothing worth contributing. Is that what you are saying? I just want to understand your thinking.
  20. In my view they could have except that Henry decided not to.
  21. By short term I mean 23 or 24. The concern is that Bloom.has no plan but just making deals with no rhymn and reason. The best guess is that he is stocking the farm for a run sometime in the distant future.
  22. Get out your bubble and listen to Weei or Sports Hub and the people who actually have sources within the clubhouse and organization. This isn't idle speculation on an internet chat room.
  23. It may be mild to you but the clubhouse was not convinced that Bloom has a plan or that it is near term. Devers is going to get his payday. The word is that he wants to win. The clubhouse is not convinced that Bloom is committed to winning in the short term. They do not trust him. As someone said why should they? Because he says so. I do not think so.
