  1. you're so predictable, you're like a caricature of a yankees fan. of course you link to incoherent babble like this and call it a good article because it claims the red sox aren't a good team
  2. hopefully daisuke continues to pitch well. he could be quite an asset down the stretch
  3. y228 is right, hughes does suck right now. he's had an era over 5 in each of the last two months and this is the worst he's pitched all year
  4. looks like tomorrow v-mart will be in the lineup and ellsbury will play in his first rehab game http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/2010/07/martinez_ready.html
  5. it looks like we could potentially get both v-mart and pedroia back within a week and a half from now. then we would have 2 full months to make a good run at a playoff spot and possibly the division
  6. in 2007, orlanda cabrera was the 5th best defensive shortstop in mlb and he had an ops of .742. that was good for a war of 4.2. i think that's the kind of production iglesias could be providing in a couple years and he'd still only be 22 then so who knows what kind of a ceiling he could have
  7. all he'd have to do to provide average offense for a shortstop would be to have an ops a hair above .700. if he could do that, with his defense he'd be one of the better shortstops in baseball
  8. sure, it was just the mariners but that's that start was a good sign from beckett. before he went on the dl he couldn't even get bad hitters out
  9. in every league that iglesias has ever played in, he's hit. he doesn't have much power, but he can hit for average
  10. here's the offensive produciton from this month from best to worst ops cameron - .293/.375/.610 youkilis - .328/.366/.578 beltre - .274/.318/.532 nava - .278/.409/.417 drew - .259/.323/.500 hall - .236/.295/.455 ortiz - .226/.380/.355 scutaro - .250/.299/.347 mcdonald - .227/.277/.364 cash - .150/.244/.150 cash is the worst offender of them all and he'll be replaced by v-mart within the week. it also helps to have lowrie playing instead of hall and eventually getting scutaro out of the leadoff spot should help his production. other than that, there are guys just having bad july's, the offense should pick up quite a bit soon
  11. haren would be a good fit for the yankees. he's had some bad luck on balls put in play but all his other numbers are solid and he's pitching in a pretty tough pitcher's park. they don't really have anything in the way of a #2 starter right now with pettitte on the dl and burnett and hughes struggling
  12. i agree, it would probably take hughes. i don't think many teams see chamberlain as a starter and if they're going to trade away a quality starter like haren, they going to want something more than an experiment to try out in the rotation
  13. i missed this piece of news last week, but jose iglesias the star cuban shortstop who we signed in the offseason hit off a tee last week and could return in the next 2-3 weeks. he's a wizard with the glove and he hit .306/.340/.408 in his introduction to the minors at aa earlier this year. could provide bench depth on the 40-man roster in september
  14. more good news on v-mart sounds like he'll be back behind the plate within the next week, possibly in a few days
  15. yeah, for whatever reason the red sox offense just hasn't clicked the last week but even the best offenses go through slumps from time to time
  16. he's giving curtis granderson a run for his money in the suck department
  17. you're probably right, the yankees rotation has been coming back down to earth before hughes' bad start. sabathia's pitched like sabathia and vazquez has been on a good run but burnett has an era over 8 the last two months, pettitte is out for a while and hughes had an era over 5 in june and one over 6 this month
  18. alright, i gotta get some sleep but this is a good start
  19. not just on fire, but officially on fire... on fire? what would you say is his ethofa?
  20. it's unlikely that ranaudo goes back to lsu or to indy ball. those may be the desperate negotiation tactics that boras tries to use, but this is probably the highest his stock will get. and boras hasn't exactly been the best agent lately, i think he's starting to lose some of his credability
