  1. if he stays on his original 4-6 week timetable, he should be ready to play within the next couple of weeks
  2. lowrie's a really solid player. people forget that he was one of our best prospects before his wrist injury. he hit .282/.378/.442 in the minors
  3. it sucks that the red sox didn't get any relievers. i was pretty disappointed by that
  4. their team era was 3.88 in july and they faced a team in the top 11 of runs scored in the majors in half of their games
  5. we have some crazy depth at catcher. mark wagner, luis exposito, dusty brown and tim federowicz were some of our better prospects going into the year. this year, lavarnway has emerged as a good catcher prospect and we've added cuban phenom adalberto ibarra and now saltalamacchia
  6. the rotation has finally rounded into form which bodes well for the next 2 months. i'm sure a certain someone will come in here and say how any pitching staff looks good against the a's and the m's but we also faced the rangers and rays this month and our overall era for the month is the best we've had all year
  7. the yankees are certainly a good team, but you can't honestly expect us to pat them on the back every time they do something well. after all, this is a red sox forum
  8. they must think there's some kind of screwy exchange rate when you trade players across the border
  9. i have to believe that hermida will be dfa'd as soon as ellsbury comes off the dl. he is just useless and his fielding is horrendous. i'd rather have eric patterson out there, at least he doesn't suck on both sides of the ball
  10. yeah, pedroia can take his time. it's ellsbury that's an urgent situation because jeremy hermida sucks soooo hard
  11. a 6-4 west coast road trip isn't bad considering all the injuries. it's a great sign to see beckett pitch so well
  12. the yankees lose with their ace on the mound against a rookie in his first start. those are the kind of losses that will allow other teams a chance at the division
  13. the yankees bullpen will be alright if robertson pitches better than he has most of the year, if hughes transitions seemlessly to the bullpen and if marte is healthy (unlike the last two years that he's had shoulder issues) that's a lot of ifs
  14. the blue jays have reportedly asked for jesus montero for scott downs. they asked the red sox for casey kelly or iglesias
  15. oh, i heard his timetable was 6 weeks - in which he'd be back in a week. but if it's 6-8 weeks, that's different
  16. i think it's fair to say that the sox are finally playing like theo drew it up. their pitching and defense has been some of the best in baseball since the all-star break
  17. having the yankees on his no trade doesn't mean it's impossible for soria to be dealt to the royals. but given that the royals aren't interested in the yankees current offer and the fact that the yankees would probably have to sweeten it even more to get soria to waive his no trade, it doesn't seem likely that a deal will be made
  18. victor martinez is reporting no pain when catching. so much for him needing to start games at 1b and dh pedroia is on schedule, which means he should return in about a week
  19. yeah, after 19 innings in triple a. it's quite different to do that after 150 innings at the major league level. and just because he did it once, doesn't mean he'll do it again. just look at how much trouble joba had attempting the switch this year. it's not good for young pitcher's arms to move them in and out of the bullpen every year
