  1. cano tends to choke in the spotlight. he's a career .193/.266/.281 hitter in 100+ playoff at bats
  2. of the 30+ prospects you mentioned in short season for the yankees, how many do you actually think are actually top prospects?
  3. sabathia hasn't been as good as lester since 2008
  4. good businessman, but didn't know baseball very well. of the 7 world series the yankees won under his ownership, 2 of them were while steinbrenner was calling the shots. he basically ruined the yankees by the 80's before he was banned from baseball for the second time and gene michael masterminded the yankees dynasty of the 90's. and if not for that run in the 90's, the yankees wouldn't be thought of in nearly the same light
  5. i'm not sure what to make of him. on one hand he spent a vast amount of his time, energy and monetary funds to improve the yankees. on the other hand he wasn't a very good at it. he was twice suspended from baseball for laundering money for richard nixon and spending tens of thousands of dollars to run a smear campaign against dave winfield. and while he did spend so much money to improve the yankees, they did only win two world series in his first 23 years of ownership and didn't enjoy their success of the 90's until he handed over baseball operations to gene michael. if steinbrenner was still in charge of baseball operations, many of the yankees prospects at the time like bernie williams, derek jeter, jorge posada and mariano rivera likely would have been traded as many of the yankees best prospects were in the 80's
  6. i wouldn't trade him. he'll probably decline, but his production's probably going to be much better than hermida's and at a fraction of the cost
  7. in his first 80 at bats, he's hitting .300/.371/.488. as far as i'm concerned, ellsbury can take his time because nava's providing much better production than ells would be
  8. great news on josh beckett "Josh Beckett (back) allowed one run over four innings for Triple-A Pawtucket in his first rehab start. Beckett gave up two hits, walked no one and struck out four. He threw 42 of 68 pitches for strikes and topped out at 96 mph on the radar gun, according to the AP. The right-hander, who has been out since May 19, will need at least one more rehab start before returning to Boston's rotation." -roto getting him back in the second half would be like trading for verlander or haren at the deadline
  9. this all-star break couldn't have come at a better time. replacing wakefield and doubront in the rotation with beckett and buchholz will do wonders for this team
  10. that's impressive that the yankees somehow stockpiled 50 or so prospects worth keeping an eye on in short league. i'm surprised sports illustrated hasn't done a story yet
  11. yeah, i was just kidding with the 30 home runs. it's a running joke to make ridiculous predictions followed by the phrase "book it"
  12. david ortiz will hit 30 home runs in the second half because he's always been a second half player. "book it"
  13. and big papi wins. that's gotta be a confidence booster for him
  14. thank you, i appreciate it. it's been mostly good news so far
  15. an even better second round from ortiz. he certainly put himself in good position to advance, but who knows what the other guys will do
  16. joe morgan just referred to david ortiz as manny ramirez. hahaha, he's so old...
  17. decent showing from ortiz in the first round. 8 shoooould be enough to advance
  18. watching the home run derby because i have nothing better to do. i'm staying in the hospital with my girlfriend while she undergoes chemotherapy and she's fast asleep
  19. it's a little early to call him a bust. he had a 4.93 era in the first half last year and was dominant in the second half (3.05 era, 1.14 whip) to finish with a respectable 3.83 era. plenty good enough for our 3rd starter
  20. I love Joba too ...and Park and Robertson and Gaudin, etc. That bullpen is a disaster after Rivera.
  21. word is that youkilis should be in the lineup tomorrow
  22. color me not worried. even if the sox do fall to 4 games back, that's nothing to make up over half a season especially for a team of the quality that we will be when we're healthy
  23. i said the last month, not the sss that you're using. on june 4th he was hitting .297/.376/.492 and people said he was breaking out then he went right back to slumping and he now is at .272/.344/.479 going into tonight's action
