  1. With the Hannigan/Breslow moves, we're very close to the final roster. One more outfielder needs to be traded, and another starter would be nice. DH: Ortiz 1B: Napoli 2B: Pedroia SS: Bogaerts 3B: Sandoval C: Vazquez LF: Ramirez CF:Castillo RF: Betts Bench: Holt, Nava, Victorino, Craig, Hannigan SP1: Holding out hope SP2: Porcello SP3: Miley SP4: Masterson SP5: Buchholz Closer: Koji Setup: Tazawa, Mujica, Breslow Middle relief: Varvaro Loogy: Layne Long Relief: Kelly
  2. Breslow is coming back. The bullpen looks done, the offense looks done, the bench looks done. Does Ben have one more move in him?
  3. Ha! They're paying 6 million to get rid of him.
  4. Yanks also giving up Phelps. Wasn't he in the rotation? Maybe they are gearing up for a big money acquisition.
  5. The best thing that could happen to the Yankees is to get one more year of Kuroda at 15 million. That shores up the rotation, and gives them a chance to contend in the AL East without hurting the long term plan. It just seems like they need a bridge year or two. They have historically bad money on the books, and that won't get better until Beltran, CC and Tex come off after 2016, and Arod in 2017. They basically bought international free agency last year, so their lower minors will be stacked, but will take some time. They could be scary good in 2017 if they use their resources appropriately, but no way they wait that long.
  6. The Red Sox have shipped a lot of middling pieces. Wilson, Lavarnway, WMB, Rubby, Webster. Hopefully none of these guys come back to bite them.
  7. Padres and Red Sox swapping WMB and Hannigan. An extremely cheap, veteran catcher with very good OBP over his career. Seems like a sell low on WMV, but Hannigan fits a need here. It means we won't see Ross's .100 average here next year.
  8. I can't believe a last first rounder was the best they could get for Rondo.
  9. Honest question. Do you see them breaking 240-245 million a year to get Scherzer? The highest they have ever spent is 228 million, and the last two years were losing seasons with the current strategy. They have practically no money coming off the books for 2016, so they would be at 240-245 million before they even look at guys like Price, Zimmerman and Cueto. They also have come this far without losing that early draft pick.
  10. Yankee payroll has generally floated around 200-215 the last few years, topping out at 228 two years ago. They are currently around 210. I'm not so sure they are willing to go to 240 so quickly -- the reports have been saying they like the starting rotation options in 2015 better (as they should).
  11. I would imagine the Red Sox have seen more of him than the rest of us combined. I would be extremely surprised if they don't have scouts in Cuba.
  12. The Nats may be stacked, but reports say they are looking to buy a big arm then trade one of their own guys for a top prospect. Same situation for Detroit and Price. Both of those buyers might not even reduce the number of aces available.
  13. The Dodgers signed two starters this offseason already. The Angels have been burned by long term contracts a lot recently and probably aren't in on him. The Giants just paid for Romo and Peavy. I would not be surprised to see the Nats and Mets in on this one, but yeah far fewer heavy hitters than Lester.
  14. Gallardo also has a declining strikeout rate, has only one year left on his contract, and plays for a team destined to miss the playoffs. The Brewers aren't going to be asking for the moon. Cecchini was a top 100 prospect last year, and probably still profiles as a major league 3B. The Brewers have Aramis Ramirez at 3B for one year, before he probably retires or moves on. They have no significant 3B prospects, and only drafted a 5th rounder last year.
  15. There has been talk of a Cuban expansion team.
  16. It would probably take more to pull in Gallardo. I am still convinced Cecchini is the most expendable prospect at this point.
  17. The Red Sox are trying to trade Allen Craig. I sure hope it is part of a bigger trade with the Brewers for Gallardo.
  18. KRod is still available, and there has been minimal interest in him so far. I'd love to see him being open to taking a back-up closer type job here.
  19. In all fairness, the parking isn't the Red Sox's fault.
  20. They would need to be overwhelmed with controllable major league talent that fits their needs. Xander + Mookie or something way overboard like that.
  21. If everything goes right, the Yankees have the best rotation in the AL East. The problem is that Tanaka looked like someone who needed TJS about a year ago, Nova is recovering from it himself, and Pineda is practically Buchholz. They also lost the leadership of Derek Jeter, and replaced it with ARod.
  22. If he stays healthy, Headley could be a steal. Excellent defense, solid offense. He's had some serious surgeries to both knees in the past, but besides that no red flags. He also may get injected with some bad steroids by A-rod while he is sleeping. The reason for the difference in contracts is that Pablo is three years younger, and brings more market and PR value. I'd prefer Headley myself, but we'll see.
  23. The offense is among the best in the league. The defense is excellent. The bullpen is respectable. The bench is filled with useful, versatile players. The farm system's best talent is in the upper minors. The starting pitching staff's average age is 27, healthy, and gives a ton of innings. They also may trade for another pitcher between now and the trade deadline.
  24. The Orioles beat Detroit and their 4 aces and moved onto the ALCS. Doesn't that say something ?
  25. Fred, take this into context. I'm comparing the Red Sox to other AL East teams. Who has an ace? The only Cy youngs in the division are over 35 in Dickey and Sabathia. Tanaka's elbow is shot. Baltimore's staff is filled with #3s and 4s, like the Sox. The Rays have a few guys who might emerge, but the rest of their team are AAAA fodder.
