I misread you earlier, I thought you meant the Sox should have forseen the Werth deal. I think the Sox figured Cameron would have hit 25 home runs, and played good defense, as he did in just about all the ten seasons prior to when they signed him. They definitely weren't expecting their #1 offensive prospect--who happened to be an outfielder-- to be struck by tragedy either. Still, I believed it back then they should have gone with Holliday over Lackey also, but I think Lackey does a lot of very important things for this team--most specifically, giving innings, wins, and protecting the young arms, all of which he did as well as anyone could have hoped last year.
