  1. He started a completely legitimate thread, and ten posts went by before anyone made a serious post. YoTN may joke around all the time, but when he's making fun of a poster who is not familiar with him, how is that Ed's fault?
  2. I definitely agree that Jeter would be a fun signing to stick it to the Yanks. But as I mentioned earlier... if the Sox want to seriously overpay on a player to screw over the Yankees, that player is Cliff Lee.
  3. Let's think about this for a minute. If what is reported is true, and he plays 60 games a year as a C for the next four years, that may not necessarily be a horrible thing. It would be the same as getting 120 games for two years before switching to 1B/C like we'd thought, except for two big factors. 1) He'll be much healthier, and odds are, more productive because he'll be spending far fewer consecutive games on his knees. 2) They can pick and choose when they want him to catch. Playoffs. Crucial divisonal games. Key matchups. And they pull him against teams with heavy run-orientated offenses. It all depends on how the rest of their lineup is performing, but 4/50 for a guy who is #2 at his position (and will probably hit significantly better in this situation, and be a true middle of the order bat) is not horribly expensive, especially since he's still pretty young.
  4. Oh, my bad-- I misinterpreted that pronoun haha. I think VMart will play a good deal of 1B/C though. 60 games at C, they said, plus probably 30-60 more at 1B.
  5. That's what I thought at first, but the more I think about it, it does make sense. I think they knew all along that they'd be losing Beltre/Vmart, and if the Ortiz negotiations dragged out, it could be a PR nightmare for them, costing tons in pre-season ticket sales. Plus, he's getting paid big for all the reasons Jeter wants 2x/3x his actual value, as a very big influence in the clubhouse. Losing Varitek, and with the end of Wakefield's career, Ortiz is the only significant member of 2004's team left.
  6. SP Clay SP Lester SP Beckett SP Lackey SP Dice K Bullpen Papelbon Bard Guerrier Downs Doubront Atchison Wakefield C Olivo 1B Gonzalez 2B Pedroia SS Scutaro 3B Youkilis LF Werth CF Ellsbury RF Drew DH Ortiz Lowrie Salty Kalish Cameron Its easy for most of them, not so much for some. 1B is difficult, and quite frankly, I feel like A-gon has the best chance of any of the 10 other options there.
  7. They've got their franchise player! I just wish the Red Sox could get one of these elite, yearly mvp-contender guys.
  8. Maybe its a plot to bring up Pettite's price so the Yankees won't be able to pay Lee 30 million a year.
  9. Actually, that's not quite right. after looking, he has two different rankings, one for each of the team he was on. Averaged out, he has a 1.5 score, meaning he'd be closer to around 20s in ranking. But still solid.
  10. Here's a pretty useful chart I found that compares catcher defense in 2010. It looks semi-reliable. Some notables. 1)Yadier Molina 2) Pudge 6) Torrealba 7) Red Sox target Rod Barajas 11) Mauer 20) Varitek 22) John Buck 25) Olivo 102) AJ Pier.... 103)Bengie Molina 106) Suzuki 113)Napoli 114) VMart 117) Posada 119) Cervelli http://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/2010/11/10/1803183/2010-beyond-the-box-score-catcher-defense-rankings
  11. I hear good things about Sons of Sam Horn. Have you been there? Maybe you should try it.
  12. I'm not proposing Crawford gets less. I'm proposing Werth gets more. I read a report that he wanted 7 years.
  13. Let's pass judgements on what these players will be paid, instead of what they want. Crawford will probably get an extra year based on defense, but I don't think it'll be a huge difference otherwise. Jeter isn't getting his 200 million afterall.
  14. The available Molina who is a FA is definitely on the back end of his career, and saw a pretty sharp decline in thrown out base-runners.
  15. Was there any reason he was on career worse numbers?
  16. They've been looking at Barajas a lot apparently, and he's garbage offensively and defensively recently. So hopefully that means they'll upgrade the other parts of the roster.
  17. The only other time he was healthy was in mid 2008. He was a .800 hitter his first two months, until he hurt his wrist, and played hurt. Every time he's played healthy, he's been a mid to high tier shortstop. I don't think a 20+ HR season is out of the question for him. Its a simple matter of if he can stay healthy.
  18. Haha, a little bit.
  19. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=ApfFEbHAAi.urH1QvHhhsiMRvLYF?slug=sh-hotstoveresetvazquez112810 Apparently he preferred Florida to the Yankees, because he went with a 1/7 when he could have easily gotten more through arbitration.
  20. You wrote a half-page response to the troll, and when I simply tried to move the conversation along, you're saying I'm feeding? That's just silly.
  21. You're absolutely right. But can you atleast admit you do the same thing?
