  1. Funny, one or two years ago, no one would have believed that would be the lineup. Imagine if Salty had turned out the prize they thought he would. Weren't they asking for Buchholz a year ago?
  2. Atchison was re-signed wasn't he? I have no problem with him being a 5th/6th inning reliever for this team, none at all.
  3. Olivo and his rocket of his arm signs for 2/7 with the Mariners... and the Sox are sticking with Salty. Still, its a good week in Boston.
  4. I'm curious if Lee had any idea he'd get the kind of offers he's looking at. I wouldn't be surprised if someone springs for 8 years. I wonder if there is a point where he will say to himself... he got the money he wanted with a team, and not even take the best offer to play where he wants to play.
  5. The guys on Sports hub called it well "A Sega Genesis lineup".
  6. Looks like I'm incredibly late to the party. How's the discussion going?
  7. If I recall, my original argument was Lee+Beltran- Dice-k =win. You're going to have to trade Dice-k, because the other four guys are not getting traded. Whether that is going to the Mets, or someone else, that's not the main point, but do you really see the Mets turning the Sox down in a Beltran for 13 mill+ mid-level prospect deal? Beltran also has the luxury of being a 1 year deal, while Ordonez will be 2-3 years. I personally prefer Ordonez, but its simply the fact that you made a personal attack to my intelligence for NO f***ING REASON when you're suggesting a very similar situation.
  8. How is it any more likely the Sox get Ordonez than Beltran? They both will cost between 10-14 million, and at this point, both are equally likely. If they trade for Beltran and don't include any major league players in the deal, how is it any different? You just went off on a tangent because I was thinking of possible solutions to free up money for bullpen, but you're saying they should spend the same amount of money without proposing solutions.
  9. I was talking about getting creative-- something this FO has been known to do. Ordonez will cost atleast 10, maybe as much as 12-- the Sox wouldn't pay more than 12 on Beltran-- they'd make the Mets eat atleast 6. How is this any different?
  10. Weren't we just arguing about salary implications yesterday? If they don't want to spend on Beltran, Ordonez is just as expensive.
  11. That means the same thing. Either the Sox pay a lot in talent, or a lot in money-- or a moderate amount in both. Ordonez seems like a better option.
  12. This team has roughly 30 million left to spend. Olivo is starting to make more and more sense as the Yankees seem primed to get Crawford-- getting an elite arm at C is much more important than ten stolen bases.
  13. Buster Olney says "The Yankees are prepared to zig off Cliff Lee if necessary". What does zig mean? Is that an obscure Zero Wing reference?
  14. So... the Mets want the Sox to take off a crap contract, and give them prospects? Sounds like a good deal to me.
  15. I have no desire to see this team deal with Hoyer again. We did what we needed to do, but going back to him is going to be very expensive because Hoyer knows he'll lose face if he trades two of his best hitters to his old team.
  16. From the reports, it sounds like the Werth deal really didn't help Crawford much. Just because one guy was unreasonably overpaid for, it doesn't mean other teams would do the same thing. The only teams I've heard of with interest are the Angels/Sox/Tigers/Yankees, but if the tigers get Ordonez they may be out, and would Crawford really be that much of a replacement for the Yankees? Swisher/Granderson are pretty solid on both sides of the ball, and Gardner is cost controlled, still entering his prime, and just as fast. He just doesn't seem like a fit there at all. So really, it just depends on what the Angels are willing to do.
  17. What are the odds the Sox go for Crawford and then trade Ellsbury for a RH bat?
  18. Wasn't this sort of a joke last season? Someone suggested him to have a lucky BABIP, and that he was due for correction... and while his ERA stayed the same, his BABIP dropped? And on a side note, who exactly are the #4 and #5 pitchers as of right now?
  19. Its a perfect storm idea. It isn't impossible, but it isn't probable either. It is the absolutely best roster they could put together, no question, and they still get 6 first round picks.
  20. Get Lee/Beltran. Non-tender Pap. get two relievers. How is that complicated?
  21. Bard closes. Wakefield is already under contract, plus Bowden. 15 mill for two solid guys, is that so difficult?
