  1. There is a difference between overhyping a prospect based on low A numbers, and seeing a full 168 games of a player in the majors and judging based on that. Wait as long as you'd like.
  2. hmm...
  3. I make the assumption that 26 year old players generally have one direction to go. Up. He'll have to adjust to major league pitching, and there will be a decline over the course of a full season, but he's always been good when healthy, whether that be early 2008 or late 2010. Scutaro-- 11 home runs in 632 AB's in 2010.
  4. His minor league numbers show that he's more than capable of hitting 10-20. I'm not saying he's going to hit 30, but Scutaro's career highs are 12, 11, and 9. Not that tough to surpass, don't you think?
  5. You seem to be nitpicking at this point. Excuse me if I don't happen to use exact medical terms, the Scutaro issue was a pinched nerve in his upper vertebrae, AND an issue with his shoulder. I clearly know that as I've mentioned it in other posts, and was generalizing here. Anything that has to do with the spine is a danger area, and the shoulder doesn't help. The point is, he was hurt all last season. And as far as Lowrie-- you have ZERO grounds to say he's unhealthy. If you demand medical records, I want some from you-- his performance, along with that of Scutaro's speaks for themselves. He has performed fine on the field, and hasn't had any injuries that will affect his performance since 2009. Mono is not going to affect his swing in 2015, it might affect his overall strength, but he clearly had no problems with hitting for power.
  6. Not true. We know the health status of Lowrie--healthy. But we don't have a clue about the health status of Scutaro. Serious back problems can end careers. We also know exactly what Scutaro is capable of, while Lowrie has a much much higher ceiling. I have no problem starting Scutaro and easing Lowrie in, but based on what we've seen, Lowrie is a much better player.
  7. How do signing bonuses affect luxury tax implications?
  8. My favorite quote of the highly quotable week "I'm just going to leave Cliff alone to do his own thing, because I'm not offering him anything, other than friendship. 'I'll be your sidekick, Cliff.'" - CJ Wilson
  9. I was hoping for a hassle-free solution, but its hard to disagree with 38%.
  10. No, I understand that. I just had to google him to see where he was born to see what his natural language was, and it surprised me, because it sounded like he was speaking broken english. I just wish he had gone out and said "I have a cold" instead of "my throat gave out".
  11. He's sweating quite a bit, and he's having trouble speaking--I'm surprised to realize that he's American-born. This is concerning--Hopefully he can handle the pressure of Fenway? Anyone know anything about his ability to handle pressure?
  12. They rotated the camera just as he was wiping his face, classy move, NESN cameras. He is also saying he doesn't have a preference as of where he will hit in the lineup, and will respect Francona's decision. His throat is really bothering him.
  13. His tie is not quite as red as Adrian Gonzalez's tie. He also seems nervous, or maybe it is his throat? Still, got to love him being here.
  14. WHAT CHANNEL IS THE PRESS CONFERENCE ON?!
  15. What impresses me the most about Lowrie is that he hit at a .900 OPS in 2010 immediately following a span of two years when he didn't play at all. For a guy that is as injury-prone as he is, that is an amazing trait to have. I think we learned that he can't hit well when playing through injuries, with the wrist injury, but when he's healthy, he's going to hit. There are not very large samples to back this up, but still-- he hits when healthy.
  16. I was under the assumption the Yankees were just in the Martin sweepstakes to annoy the Sox? Don't they already have three catchers in their organization?
  17. It sounds like Cliff Lee has the offers he's going to get and needs to just make a decision. This is why I sooo wanted the Rangers to win the WS last year... http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=AruhTW7H7O3rWW8z.TnAqxWpu7YF?slug=ap-clifflee
  18. The thing is-- Mike Lowell still hit well, he just had trouble getting around the bases. The hip surgery may not mean the end of Martin's mobility, but since he relies on speed quite a bit since he doesn't hit for power, losing that speed will hurt his OBP. More infield outs will hurt his value at the plate substantially. Not to mention the possibility of further decline. Maybe he'll be fine. I'll root for him immediately if they sign him. But losing out on Olivo feels a lot like losing out on Alex Gonzalez did last year.
  19. Its not like he's going to get anything but max offers at this point, and he needs time to make a decision. But the Rangers aren't exactly done yet, are they? It affects moves, not necessarily a lot, but it does make a difference. Especially when major executives keep having to make visits to see Cliff Lee instead of dealing with other matters.
  20. Texas management has flown to Arkansas three times this offseason. They asked him how much money it will take, and he didn't answer them. The Yankees may have the money to sign whoever they want, but the Rangers do not, how much they budget for other holes depends on where Lee goes. As stated, it isn't unreasonable... yet.
