I've been citing fWar for years, and no one has ever called me out on it. On the bright side Kimmi, it probably means people here take you more seriously than they do me:p
Porcello's contract is signed. It was a lot of money. The guy who signed it is gone. We've established who on TS liked the deal, and who didn't.
I like Porcello's chances of being a solid #3/4 moving forward. If Price pitches like Price, and someone steps up as a #2, we'll probably be fine with him Porcello in the middle of the group for now.
Theo had a 5 year plan. Hoard elite prospects and top picks. Make shrewd, excellent trades. Spend money intelligently.
Cashner for Rizzo. Feldman for Strop and Arrieta. Shark for Addison Russell, Billy Mckinney. Dempster for Hendricks. Jorge Soler on the cheap.
Its a shame that they let Theo go instead of Loopy Larry.
Ben and Double D both made calls about Gray and Sale. Those guys just aren't available at any reasonable price.
Remember when Theo told Seattle they could "pick any five" for Felix and got turned down? Probably a similar situation here.
DUIs are a felony and more serious. But yes, the difference in sport penalties between minor drug offenses and serious violent acts seem a bit of a problem.
So Hanley went home already, and Pablo is denying that anyone asked him to lose weight in the offseason.
Meanwhile, Ortiz and Pedroia haven't shown up yet. Anyone else feeling worried about the season ?
The Red Sox have a habit of extending players after the season has already started to avoid the luxury cap. If they're willing to take team friendly deals, I bet something will get done.
Sandoval was probably worth 50-60 million when he was signed. Healthy, reliable, playoff proven 3B with a solid bat and okay defense.
Players don't just make 5 WAR swings overnight. Unless they just signed a big contract with the Red Sox.
It is the hall of fame. It not the hall of fairness. It is not the hall of people we agree with. It is not the hall of players who didn't break rules that were enforced after they left the game.
If a player provided a career or seasons that could be among the best of all time, they belong.
It's about time we got over players who used steroids. Especially the ones who were encouraged and celebrated by the league at the time.
McGwire averaged 55 HR per full season. He belongs in the hall of fame.
With Alex Gordon's "bargain" signing, I'm surprised he wasn't drawing more comparisons to Victorino. 32 year old outfielders, elite gloves, with .775 OPSes, both coming off meh seasons.
Its a real shame that Victorino's knees went downhill so fast.
Royals managed to re-sign Alex Gordon. Their message boards are absolutely overjoyed this morning -- way more than us after Price. Its always fun to see team heroes returning to small market teams.
Kazmir to the Dodgers on a 3 year deal. The only guy left who won't cost a draft pick is Maeda.
I don't think any of these guys are worth the draft pick/money besides maybe Chen. It is starting to feel like we aren't getting a #2.
Shields isn't a candidate for a bad contract swap because he had a decent year. Midway through the season, Pablo/Hanley could increase their own trade values, or there could be a pitcher who signs this year who quickly needs a change of scenary.
Now that I think of it, the savvy move would be to avoid the expensive free agent pitchers now, and trade low on those same guys next year for Hanley/Pablo.
Look at how Shields is being shopped and he had a somewhat decent year -- there might be a deal out there with so many expensive contracts being signed.
