  1. He'll probably start the year in the majors, and if he isn't crushing, he'll get optioned when Vazquez is ready.
  2. I can't imagine Arizona's scouts are happy. Put all that work into what you believe is a franchise altering pick, and he ends up somewhere else six months later. Especially only a year after the Red Sox showed that the value for a first overall could be worth up to 75 million.
  3. I'm actually surprised Cashman is still in New York. One playoff game in 3 years used to be unacceptable there.
  4. Fangraphs says -9, but still not great numbers. It sounds like most of the industry is pretty unconcerned, and figure he's dealing with an adjustment period. He's had to deal with a completely unfamiliar staff as a rookie. 63 IP from Steven Wright certainly didn't help either. And despite DRS, his CS%, and receiving stats were fine.
  5. Which defensive metrics are you looking at? You keep saying this, but I haven't found much out there saying he was any worse than middle of the pack.
  6. Mark Appel was added to the Ken Giles trade. The Kimbrel deal seems much more palatable in comparison and the Carson Smith deal feels like a steal in comparison.
  7. Tell you what, we're feeling generous and we'll let you pick between Owens/Johnson/Espinoza. Add any of those guys... Make that any two of those guys, and we'll give you Fernandez.
  8. The Red Sox's season depends on bounceback seasons. Starting pitching? They need good seasons from Porcello/Kelly. Relief pitching? They need good seasons from Koji/Taz. Infield defense? They need good seasons from Hanley/Panda, and a healthy Pedroia. Power? They need good seasons from Hanley/Panda. Speed? They need a healthy Pedroia and a good season from Castillo.
  9. The 2017 free agent market is headlined by Strasburg, Andrew Cashner... and that's pretty much it. Maybe its better to stock up on pitching now?
  10. Andrew Cashner seems like a prime target for the Red Sox. The Padres are going nowhere in a rough division. Cashner is coming off a mediocre year and hits free agency next year. Decent K/9, GB%, eats innings, and seems likely to be a #3 next year. He gives the Red Sox some time to figure out what they have in Johnson/Owens. I'd hope the cost would be similar to the cost of Gallardo last year. Who knows what he'll actually cost.
  11. The Dodgers seem extremely hesitant to deal Urias. I doubt Andrew Miller brings that kind of value back in a trade.
  12. A 3 WAR outfielder, a first overall pick, another top 50 prospect, plus more coming. The Marlins just got an erection.
  13. So far the only piece known to be going to the Braves is Inciarte. It looks like's been a 3 WAR guy lately, but damn, seems like a weak centerpiece.
  14. It sure doesn't feel like the Red Sox are done. They have a lot of extraneous pieces, but I doubt they're enough to get the reliable starter they need. Elias, Shaw, Hannigan, Barnes, Workman. Maybe Buchholz, Johnson or even Swihart/Owens could get moved. The Kimbrel trade will definitely hurt them in negotiations.
  15. There are reports of the Rangers shopping Fielder. Hanley for Fielder almost seems crazy enough to work.
  16. People keep saying that Miley and Elias are the same pitcher, but I highly disagree with that. Miley has averaged 195 IP over the last 4 years. He's healthy, reliable, and a proven commodity. Just because Elias is also a mediocre lefty starter doesn't put him in the same class. Carson Smith was the real value in this deal, he'll be a big asset moving forward.
  17. Carson Smith had a 25% strikeout rate on top of a 65% groundball rate. Excellent numbers -- he'll probably be a good guy for a relief ace role.
  18. In one season, his numbers look like this: 11.8 K/9, 2.32 ERA, 1.00 WHIP. We won't know if he's consistent for a few years. He's controllable for 5 years, and that's his value.
  19. Everyone seems to give the impression Carson Smith is beastly. Not sure about Elias.
  20. Carson Smith and Roenas Elias.
  21. And Miley is going to the Mariners. That sucks. No word on the return yet.
  22. Trading Miley for spare parts will be a mistake. There better be actual value coming back to the Sox.
  23. Sounds like Chapman won't cost the Dodgers any top prospects. Blah.
  24. Iwakuma and Lackey both seem like bargains in this free agent market.
  25. Hey man, stop with the personal attacks already.
