  1. One thing you and have I always agreed on is this team's need for pitching.
  2. Shelby Miller could be great, but I wonder why two teams have put him on the block in the last year.
  3. DD signed the best starter available and traded for the best reliever available. I'm going to let that sink in, and worry about 2020 another time. Hell yes Dumbo.
  4. The Red Sox spent 2/12 on Gomes, and he could barely play defense. Like it or not, its around the going rate for decent free agents.
  5. The details in -- 2/13M. Expensive for a 4th OF, but seems reasonable given the modern FA market. It seems like we're always saying the same thing every year-- We need more pitching.
  6. Telling players that they are platoon players seems to be a lot like insulting their mothers. Chris Young probably came to Boston because he was promised more playing time. Hopefully he handles reality well.
  7. We're talking about a player who averaged 4 WAR a year before 2015. Someone has to want to take his contract for 50 million, otherwise the Red Sox should keep him.
  8. Seems like a good pickup. Hopefully no more than 2/12M, and hope he takes a long shower first.
  9. I am searching for comparisons for Hanley Ramirez. Billy Butler, mediocre first baseman D, career .800 OPS, coming off poor season in 2014. 30 million. Adam Laroche, mediocre first baseman D, career .780 OPS, 25 million. Carlos Beltran, mediocre outfield D, career .850 OPS, health issues, 36 years old, 45 million. None are great comparisons. I'm seeing a lot of guys between 20-40 million. At best, the Red Sox will probably have to eat 8-10 million a year. Is is worth it?
  10. Zim has been among the most consistent pitchers in baseball. But he cost a draft pick and is a tommy john surgery ahead of the other guys.
  11. In 2014, the Royals went to the World Series and were dominated by Bumgarner. In 2015, the Royals had Cueto. He had a rough game against Toronto but he did throw a two hitter in the World Series.
  12. Usually we see the total for free agents go around 1.5-2 billion total, and there are a ton of middle rotation guys available. There may be a point where other teams start running out of money and we see pitchers go cheaper than expected. Personally, I'm okay with just signing Price, adding some complementary pieces and calling it an offseason.
  13. Lawrie was the center piece in the Donaldson trade. Doubt anyone will give Beane enough value here.
  14. Sounds like Dumbo is going hard after Price. I hope we are going to be very happy sometime soon.
  15. I doubt Dumbo waits till Maeda is posted -- ace is too big of a need for this team. Tanaka didn't make it to posting until January IIRC.
  16. Hanley shares a lot more similarities with Manny than Ortiz. If they could give his contract away, they would.
  17. What concerns me is this: What if Price/Greinke/Cueto simply don't want to pitch here?
  18. Come on Dumbo, just sign us an ace already and give us something new to talk about.
  19. Four more years! Four more years!
  20. Also, Hanrahan was just a throw-in in the Brock Holt trade:cool:
  21. Andrew Bailey had known health issues. Joel Hanrahan had a 3.50 ERA before Boston. KRod has been one of the most consistent closers in baseball over the last decade.
  22. And yet KRod's ERA, WHIP, K/BB and SV% were all better last year, despite significant park factors favoring Kimbrel. Kimbrel is clearly clearly the better pitcher. But I'd rather have the extra 6 million and elite prospects as resources available for our next ace.
  23. Franciso Rodriguez is criminally underrated. 2.69 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, 10.75 K/9 over the course of the last 13 years. He's been an excellent closer with no injury issues. He's clearly not better than Kimbrel, but KRod would have been a much better use of resources.
  24. Meanwhile, Detroit trades for another elite closer, K-Rod, for what amounts to spare parts. K-Rod had a better ERA, and WHIP last year in a more hitter friendly park. He's 6 years older, but he's also 6 million cheaper, and cost a prospect who may someday be a very solid utility guy on the Milwaukee bench.
  25. One of the new theories circling the web is that the Padres are trying to sell Tyson Ross, but are trying to attach Matt Kemp along with him. Is two years of Ross worth 80 million of Kemp? Ehhhhh.
