  1. Betts was blocked at 2B, and that seems to have worked out pretty well.
  2. They tried trading Hamels for what seemed like several years. I imagine that deal was the best they were going to get.
  3. Matt Harrison, hasn't pitched since 2012, he was a 26 million dollar salary dump. He might as well be Allen Craig. Comparisons are never perfect, but the Rangers got a top of the rotation guy for his early 30s at low monetary value at a cost similar to we did for Kimbrel.
  4. I never understand how some teams can trade for aces with 2-3 elite prospects, but when the Red Sox try it ends up costing 2-3 elite prospects and two effective major leaguers. Its as if the Red Sox organization are terrible negotiators. Cole Hamels cost BAA's 45th and 83rd best prospects, and included Matt Harrison as a salary dump for the Rangers. How is it that #25 and #76 couldn't get someone at Hamel's level?
  5. As much as I have questioned the trade, none of the guys involved seem like can't-miss prospects. Margot might turn into an above average outfielder, but his 2015 season was not all that impressive. The other guys have ceilings of a weak bat shortstop, a utility player and a back of the rotation starter.
  6. The Red Sox spent a lot of money and prospect value here. We need to wait and see if they add the pieces that will get the team a lead in the 9th inning.
  7. DD had 40 million to work with, which should have been enough to sign an ace, and two bullpen arms. He's already shot his load on Buchholz and one bullpen arm.
  8. Looking at the resources the Red Sox have available this year.. $154.5 M already in signed contracts to 12 players. MLBTR arbitration estimates: 3M to Tazawa 3M to Kelly .7M to Varvaro 1.1M to Robbie Ross 12 Million more to fill the 40 man roster (24 * .5M) 10 million more in player benefits. We're already around 185 million. If Craig stays outrighted, 176M. That's only 13 million under the salary cap. If this team wants Price/Cueto they will need to trade Buch or find some space somewhere else.
  9. I've said my piece on this deal. The Red Sox spent a large amount of value on a player who could potentially be the best at his position. There is plenty to be optimistic about with Kimbrel, but now let's see the ace.
  10. Its not about the prospects, its the value given up. Add Swihart to that mix, and maybe they could have found an ace with that haul. Maybe there was a three team trade out there. I get that this team needed relief help, but there were more reasonable options out there. Papelbon, O'day, Clippard... none of those guys would have cost remotely this much.
  11. So you're okay with trading a big pile of prospects for a non-ace ?
  12. This seems like an overpay. Giving up a top 25 prospect and a top 100 prospect for an expensive reliever? Why not just pay the 30-40 million on Darren O'Day and save the prospects? I miss Ben already.
  13. The most likely opening day starter is Cueto. That being said, I wouldn't be surprised to see Scherzer, Gray, Sale, Carrasco or Price out there either.
  14. PNW Chapter then?
  15. MLB Trade Rumors also suggests Cueto would cost 115 million/ 5years, whereas Price would cost 215 million/9 years. 100 million is a huge difference in cost, and I'd bet the Red Sox should use the savings in insuring the elbow.
  16. Gray is available, but we just don't like the cost. Dombrowski had a great quote from last week. --"I have always tried not to say players are untouchable. The reason I have done that is because you never can tell when somebody makes you an offer you just can’t believe. If you have Miguel Cabrera, somebody may offer you two Miguel Cabreras"
  17. Half the time Buchholz is hurt. Half the time healthy Buchholz is ineffective. If you look at his streaks, he's an ace roughly 25% of the time. This would be fine if they could get him ready for the playoffs, but he's usually banged up by then -- We've never seen "Ace Buchholz" in the playoffs. Maybe they should give him the month of July off every year BEFORE he gets the annual injury.
  18. We as a discussion board and community need to give up on Harvey. The Mets are looking like one of the strongest teams going into 2016, and they're not going to trade away their best player to a team whose trade assets don't fit their needs. Its a bad sign when you're trying to trade for a cost less obtainable than Price, Cueto, Greinke, Gray, Sale.
  19. In game 4, didn't he allow the hit which tied up the game? 3 blown saves in a World Series by a closer is pretty brutal. Bullpens and bullpen management were the clear difference maker in this series.
  20. Familia had an awful series. I'd trust Harvey with 100 pitches over him. I probably would have left Pedro in in 2003 too, though.
  21. I doubt the Red Sox spend their 12th overall pick on Zimmermann. He's young, consistent, and healthy, but that's a big talent cost plus the 150 million dollar cost.
  22. I am looking at his 2.70 ERA since 2011 as well. He has been the second best pitcher in the majors over that span. If he can pitch well in the playoffs, and we can insure the elbow, what red flags are left for Cueto?
  23. It might be worth looking into pricing out insurance policies on Cueto's elbow, and making him a strong consideration. If they spend less than 30 million on an insurance policy, he might end up being the better value. The two hitter last night definitely made me give him more thought.
  24. They wouldn't take him back after the s*** he pulled in 2008. I'd also quit my job and move back to Boston so I can picket outside of Fenway full time.
  25. I really hate Colon. Glad he got the L today. I really don't want him to get a ring.
