  1. More of a waste of money than anything else. I consider Holt/Dejesus to be a wash, Pimentel was completely useless, and Melancon had his chance here and blew it, so while he's doing well in Pittsburgh I find it highly unlikely that Melancon would have the same numbers here. It does piss me off when players suck/get injured and we still have to pay them for the whole contract but we aren't on the hook for that much. I consider the $7M to be an inflation adjusted version of the $5M contracts we typically waste on people like John Smoltz and Brad Penny. Edit: Still not sure how to feel about Sands though, that might be something to keep an eye on. Also I don't think we could have reasonably predicted the injury so I can't really blame the GM that much.
  2. He was probably bowling with other senior citizens, the Yanks probably got their other hitters from a bus stop near Atlantic City.
  3. Which part of the Lakes Region are you on Ted? I was just in Wolfeboro the past year+ doing work in financial planning, but then I hated my job and the company I worked for so I left and am going to grad school in the fall. Nice area.
  4. Alex Cobb strikes out 4 batters in an inning, the only 4 batters of the inning, and still gave up a run. I believe that's the only time that's ever happened since gamelogs were recorded.
  5. A win and a day off for our bullpen. Check and checkmate. I'm pretty sure Born already had the high score for gamethread wins this year so it's nice to add to the total.
  6. He has 92 total pitches and our bullpen has been depleted by injuries, ineffectiveness, and overusage, so I'd let Lester at least start the 8th. I think he's past the middle of Toronto's order anyway.
  7. That's how it's supposed to be done Nava.
  8. At least Ellsbury got one into the air this time. Also with Ramon Ortiz at about 83 pitches maybe we can get him out of the game after the next inning.
  9. Yeah but we'd sell a ridiculous amount of merchandise in Mexico.
  10. Not to mention what players do in other places that they just didn't do here.
  11. I feel like threads like these exemplify that it's really hard to win as a GM because fans will come at you sideways regardless of what decisions you do or don't make.
  12. Maybe something is being lost in translation. You two should switch to Spanish. It'd be like Telemundo.
  13. I still prefer to blame Julio Lugo.
  14. I think we might get a better return on our investment with Hanrahan on the DL than if he were back pitching for us. Oh well, there have been many worse wastes of money in baseball.
  15. Then again I'd have said the same 7-2 thing prior to this 4 game series.
  16. I believe that's his 5th. He had 9 errors in 72 games last season. Both put him around a .945-.950 fielding percentage. If only he had a matching OPS.
  17. Now we face Toronto coming up so hopefully that's a team we can turn our slump around again. Why can't we face Houston another round?
  18. Not to mention our own bullets with Youkilis and presumably Ellsbury. I'm not giving up on J-EZ too EZly.
  19. I'm not sure what the offers were for Ellsbury, but I remember a time when Texas wanted Ellsbury and Youkilis for Teixeira.
  20. That's a quick run back, lead down to 2.
  21. At this point now that we're losing might as well throw Lackey out there for the 7th. He's only at 91 pitches and our bullpen has been overused. This is also his 3rd start back from injury.
  22. That was the first walk of the game for either side...in the 6th. Not bad.
  23. Everything is worth the Sox winning. (If they were actually correlated)
  24. If your pasta mojo is 11-2, why the hell aren't you eating pasta everyday?
  25. It looks like Cleveland is going to sweep a 4 game series of the A's and Oakland is about to fall to .500. It's nice to watch Colon get shelled, but the real surprise is Scott Kazmir (remember him?) throwing 6 innings of 1 ER ball with 10K's. His last start was his first win since 2010 and he's quietly put together 3 decent/good starts.
