In Ellsbury's defense he had Adrian Beltre charge into him and Reid Brignac land on his shoulder. Ellsbury isn't on Drew-family status.

I'd rather have a starter I'd be comfortable is better than most of our in house options, and one that would help us where we really need it, the postseason. I don't think Garza adds that much, so I wouldn't want to pay extra money/prospects unless we were getting a real benefit that increased our World Series odds. I don't think Garza is that type.

I'd be happy to trade those 2 but I'm not looking to trade for Garza. If we trade for a starter I'd want Lee.

Using Soxprospects list I wouldn't give up any of the top 10-12. I wouldn't waste Theo's time with an offer unless it was to make the Yankees pay more.

He is. I meant when Miller returns next season, and assuming we keep Crain. Edit: The thing for me is if we trade for Crain now I feel like we should have traded for him in the beginning instead of getting Thornton.

That'd be my plan for next season, I'm not sure about Bogaerts for the rest of this season. I guess we can do worse than giving Holt/Snyder at bats. -
I'm not disagreeing with that, but I still think he'd be a better bat than Drew/Holt/Snyder/Middlebrooks for the remainder of this season.

I was personally disappointed when we drafted Marrero (in the first round) anyway, and Crain is probably the best reliever on the market. He'd be better than almost all of the American relievers on our team. Even after when Miller returns.

I think BA is flukey season to season but not necessarily over the years. I don't think Drew's .263 average and Young's .301 average for their careers are a result of flukes. I genuinely believe Young is, has been, and will be a better hitter than Drew. Drew also has a much bigger lefty/righty split this season, hitting .593 vs. lefties and .779 vs. righties (OPS) as opposed to Young at .702 vs. lefties and .781 vs. righties. Young has a .54 difference for his career whereas Drew's is at .93

If it weren't for Drew's reasonable slugging despite a poor average and on base it wouldn't be close. His average and on base body Drew's existence this year, not to mention his durability. It all depends on what the Phillies want, but I don't think we see eye to eye on Young, or Markakis based on yesterday's discussion.

Going forward I'd trust Young's bat over Iglesias/Holt/Snyder/Drew and probably even Middlebrooks. I'd def want him for the rest of this season, although I'd probably elect for Iglesias/Bogaerts for next season. (Just because I value Young's bat over Iglesias doesn't mean I'd put Young over Iglesias. I'd put Iglesias at SS and Young at 3B and Bench/send down Drew/Holt/Snyder.

I'd rather have Young's bat than Drew/Iglesias/Holt/Snyder for the rest of this season. Next year may be another story.

The prospect haul will definitely depend on how much salary the Phillies are willing to eat to make a deal, but I wouldn't mind a trade like that. I'd prefer if the Phillies threw in Michael Young into the trade, and I think we can throw in any rule 5 players in to sweeten the pot if necessary.

I meant balanced in terms of consistent skills, defense, power, stolen bases, on base etc. He won't lead the league in any but he's pretty consistent in many areas. A lot like Choo, however Choo is better in many aspects, but that does not mean that both players aren't "balanced" in terms of not being 1 dimensional. Assuming he is average at almost everything, that still makes him balanced imo.

Choo is one of the more balanced OF's in terms of overall production in my opinion. Kind of like a Nick Markakis (at Markakis best) Probably the ideal #2 hitter.

Do we need either Ellsbury/Choo though? Can't we have an OF of Nava/Gomes, JBJ and Victorino? We can get the draft pick for Ellsbury and potentially spend money to benefit the team in other ways. (1B or SP)

I'd prefer to spend more money on Choo than I would on Ellsbury if it were possible.

Until they get traded or left as free agents due to some cost cutting maneuvers by Loria to save himself some money while the Miami taxpayers foot the bill for a new stadium.

The Marlins also have some other nice pieces in Jacob Turner, Logan Morrison and Steve Cishek, so I guess if I literally was offered them all for Bogaerts I'd take it, but considering the fact that the Marlins want the top prospect (to start) for Cishek means they can go f*** themselves and enjoy last place for another few years.

According to Frisaro, Giancarlo Stanton, Logan Morrison, Steve Cishek and Mike Dunn are all considered building blocks and are likely to stay put with the Fish. All of that could change if the Marlins are overwhelmed by a team willing to overpay, but even a package for Cishek would have to start with a team's No. 1 prospect, according to Frisaro. As it stands, the 27-year-old closer is not available. Hahaha I wouldn't trade our top prospect (or any of the next few) for the ENTIRE Marlins team sans Stanton.
