  1. Exactly, because if he has a high trade value with other teams, that means he's likely doing well for us, and if he's doing well for us then why trade him? Even if we have 6 amazing starters so that we can trade Lackey, a team would never give us the best package for Lackey, so once again it wouldn't make sense to move him. The only way it makes sense to trade Lackey for prospects is if you have an opposing GM that's completely retarded, which I find increasingly rare as the years go on.
  2. And since the Sox have done admirably in his absence we're looking at September and the playoffs so we don't need to rush Buchholz back. Sure it might win us a few games in the short term but a simple setback later on can cost us the season. I think that at this point, barring an epic collapse like 2011, we should be in the playoffs.
  3. There's a nice piece on Soxprospects about prospects we've traded since 2005. I'd copy and paste it but it's a bit big (that's what she said) and it deserves the attention on its own merit. http://news.soxprospects.com/2013/07/tradedprospects2013.html
  4. I normally get nervous when I see triple digit extensions, but that's more often with pitching, and especially with true free agent contracts (players that we buy from other teams rather than talent we raise through our own team/system) I like the signing/extension for Pedroia though, he deserves it and he'll be a valuable piece for our franchise down the road.
  5. I know you disagree with me on the run saved vs. a run scored, we've been down that road before. I'm not going to change your mind, you're not going to change mine. I also disagree that Young sucks. So it looks like we agree on the same overarching point despite disagreeing on a few of the minor points in the reasoning. Oh well.
  6. I know Kuroda had a full no-trade clause in his 2012 Yankees contract, it didn't say anything about this year though. Considering he had a full no-trade clause in 2011 I'd be surprised if he didn't have one this year too.
  7. It did take a while. I'm still a fan of Young's bat and would prefer it over Holt/Snyder/Drew/Middlebrooks, but when you factor in the defensive sacrifice, and the fact that it'd cost money and a prospect, it's not worth it. I'd rather save the prospects for more relievers and/or a starter.
  8. At this point I don't think we need Young anymore. Holt/Snyder/Drew don't seem to be that bad and their increase in defense could make up for their less offense (a run saved is a run scored) and I'd use my resources (money/prospects) on players we need rather than simply something "we can use" and we need bullpen arms. That said if the opportunity to trade for Cliff Lee presented itself I'd probably take it.
  9. It looks like they Cubs can select 2 PTBNL's from an agreed upon list of names (all pitchers), but if they select Neil Ramirez (a pitcher who was originally to be included in the deal but substituted for Grimm), then they only get the 1 PTBNL.
  10. I believe the original deal was for Ramirez in lieu of Grimm but then I think Garza's medicals held up the deal slightly. I'm surprised Grimm was their 14th best prospect as he looked god awful thus far but I admittedly didn't know much about the Rangers system. I think Olt was like the 22nd best prospect overall according to BA.
  11. That was Moore's first shutout (and complete game) and it probably won't be his last.
  12. I guess it's that much more important that we won last night. And Lester gets to go against Fausto Carmona tomorrow so if he can't win that he probably can't win at all. And I think we're close to already winning the season series vs. the Rays anyway so some of those games were bound to average out. Don't the Rays have a much tougher 2nd half schedule than us anyway?
  13. Garza to the Rangers for Olt, Edwards, and Grimm. It looks like the hold up was medical and it cost the Cubs getting Ramirez in lieu of Grimm. Either way I like the haul for Theo. Olt is a 3B prospect that can hit for average and power and can defend. On one list he was ranked as the 22nd prospect in the majors.
  14. I definitely would.
  15. Note to self: Never piss off anyone around here that can look up all of my previous posts. Second note to self: Don't post things that people will remember.
  16. Realistically if we can get our relievers without giving up Bogaerts/Bradley/Cecchini/Webster/De La Rosa then I'd be happy. I'd be hesitant to give up more than one of Ranaudo/Barnes/Owens. I'd prefer to part with the Brentz/Workman/Britton/Marrero/Wilson type.
  17. The Papelbon topic came up quite a bit a few weeks to a month ago. I was on the fence about it (I thought it could help but probably not worth the cost) but I thought Iortiz was the biggest proponent of the Papelbon train.
  18. Tazawa too I believe.
  19. I just hope we don't give up a huge piece for them. (Top 10 prospect)
  20. I'd listen to offers for anyone. I wouldn't look to trade everyone, but I'd at least field offers.
  21. I'm just glad I can finally go to bed and that it was timed perfectly with the end of a Friends marathon.
  22. A feat that seems difficult with Middlebrooks in the minors.
  23. The worst part is that Napoli isn't the one getting injured so he'll be making incentives that could push his burden to $13M instead of $5M.
  24. He's stolen 3rd at least twice and I don't think he's been caught yet.
  25. I do like the idea of a Nava/Gomes, Victorino, JBJ OF with say Carp on the bench, especially if it means we have a corresponding upgrade like McCann over Salty at Catcher.
