  1. I also feel the Rays are also built to win in terms of defensive "pedigree" ie shifting and an ability to play small ball and win close games.
  2. Yes, but the A's are in the lead. I thought the Red Sox were 3rd on the list and Orioles were 4th. At least as of yesterday afternoon. Edit: Then again before I went to be I read something about the White Sox wanting Sonny Gray (the pitcher I wanted us to draft but went to Oakland with the pick before us when we got Matt Barnes) and Addison Russell and Oakland telling Chicago to go f*** themselves.
  3. I heard there were 5 teams really pursuing him, 4 of them in the NL. I really hope we're the other team.
  4. It makes me wonder if bad contracts can be used as benchmarks. An agent can be like "well, this player got this much" and the team could be like "yeah, and we all know that was an abortion of a contract that's virtually untradeable"
  5. Again? I thought it was popular knowledge that he was Dutchy. Did he do anything else to get banned or did they ban him when they finally knew it was him? He was posting well here imo. He had some of the smarter opinions here. Edit: Nvmd I didn't read this thread prior.
  6. As a small point one could argue that the "hometown guy" could put more seats in the stands and sell more merchandise which may also justify a higher salary.
  7. You should add an avatar to further distinguish yourself so idiots like me don't get into arguments with you thinking you're "User Name?"
  8. Haha yes I am. I didn't realize there was a "User Name" and a "User Name?" God damn it.
  9. I think so. I don't think they have a specific number, but they are worth some extra money. For example, Mauer is from Minn and was/is/will be the face of the franchise. Therefore I think Minnesota would be more likely to pay him the big bucks than someone who didn't have those intangibles. Also factor in catching intangibles such as the ability to work with the pitching staff.
  10. Does your sig mean you're going for your phd since you got your masters at WMU?
  11. What's the dollar value assigned to wins these days?
  12. I feel like getting Buchholz back and Lester returning to his old self (if that's the case) would be like landing 2 ace's via trade or free agency, without the extra cash and prospects of course. Still, at this point I only think a reliever is necessary, but Cliff Lee would be a luxury that would make this team really difficult to beat down the stretch. (For a few years too) And I'd like to see Bogaerts get some at bats while we're at it.
  13. I wonder if the A's leading the Peavy sweepstakes has anything to do with Bartolo Colon being mentioned in the Biogenesis thing and suspensions looming nearby.
  14. What about the A's? “@danhayescsn: #WhiteSox source has Oakland #Athletics in front of Jake Peavy sweepstakes. Peavy brought extra bags on trip in case, per @jjstankevitz.” JIM BOWDEN ‏@jimbowdenespnxm 4m If Jake Peavy has been traded it is NOT to the Braves,Cards,O's or Red Sox according to team sources
  15. Because I never leave my apartment.
  16. I mean Lee was pulled from a start with "neck stiffness" right? It all comes down to the amount of money paid. I'd give the Phillies the choice of eating money for better prospects or dumping money for ok prospects. I'd be really pissed if we trade a top 10 prospect for a starter not named Lee. Hell I'd rather trade a top 10 prospect for a good reliever than for Peavy.
  17. Trade deadline rumors are like women. If "No" actually meant "No" then we'd all die virgins. "No" just means work the neck/chest a little and try again in 5-10 minutes.
  18. No, after Wednesday passes. Then again he could be a player that could be traded through waivers.....
  19. **Crossing fingers that it's not Boston**
  20. According to MLBTR Peavy trade is imminent. As in he's cleared his stuff from the clubhouse. Please not to Boston, or at least please not involving any top 10 prospects.
  21. For me, the decision whether to start/sit Iglesias comes down to how well Bogaerts can handle the SS position at the major league level. I'm not worried about Bogaerts offense, or Iglesias defense. I'd love to have Bogaerts at SS and Cecchini at 3B going forward, and maybe Middlebrooks at 1B or DH if he can hit.
  22. Isn't the average shortstop triple slash pretty lousy anyway? I think his defense more than makes up for it. I can see him being a super sub towards the end of this year (with Bogaerts called up) but I wouldn't mind him starting in the future. Realistically if he can hit above .200 and either draw some walks or at least work counts/pitches and do the little things right (ie sac bunt) then he's in the lineup. We've had so many blackholes in our lineup over the years, so I'm ok with one that can play gold glove defense. And none of that "Jeter's been in the league so long let's give him another gold glove" type ******** either. Actual gold gloves.
  23. As long as the rest of the contract is on their books I'll be happy. They signed that god awful contract too, they deserve it.
  24. I wonder if the Orioles have the prospects to make those deals since they already lost Delmonico and weren't wanting to move Gausman/Schoop.
  25. I think he's only not part of our future if Bogaerts is slated to spend his prime years as a SS. I'd love a SS/3B combination of Iglesias/Bogaerts, with maybe Cecchini at 1B or something. I assume Middlebrooks would probably be traded at some point, maybe he can DH when Papi retires.
