    I give you props for admitting it. If only everyone on the forums took the time to look things up before posting, the world will be a better place. If it makes you feel better, you're a better poster for your age than I was, and way ahead of Suns. You might not get the reference but Suns was a 14-15ish year old kid who might compete for worst poster in TS history.

    I wonder what his AAA stats are. I thought he was doing really well when we went down. I figured he'd have replaced Snyder/Holt by now.

    I wouldn't trade Middlebrooks for Garza unless we were sure we could sign him to a long term deal. Under the new system we wouldn't get a draft pick for Garza since we didn't have him the whole season. In addition, while I'm all for trading Middlebrooks/Iglesias (as we'd have a logjam with Middlebrooks/Iglesias/Bogaerts/Cecchini) but I'd rather go after Cliff Lee than Matt Garza. I don't think Garza is an improvement over the majority of starters in our rotation and as such I don't think he'd help us enough to be worthy of Middlebrooks, plus or minus whatever the Cubs are asking. I also think more teams are in on Garza than Lee, so we'd have less competition.

    That's why we tolerated Beckett and Youkilis when we won the World Series and that's why we're happy with Lackey now.

    Just for question sake, can't steroids improve your bat speed?

    I highly doubt he'd have made it to this far in the season if he had been using steroids. He's probably peeing into a cup after every HR. In his defense he was a power hitter throughout his career, even in Texas, but he had Mark Reynolds syndrome and now it looks like he's finally making contact.

    Actually, according to MLBTR it's exactly the opposite. Aceves is saying he has an oblique injury and may be injured for the rest of the season whereas the Red Sox don't think he's injured. I believe Manny Ramirez was the last player to pull something like that, but he's a HOF caliber player whereas Aceves has been god awful the past few years. I was a huge fan of Aceves a few years ago (from his time with the Yankees to his first year with us) but now his production hasn't been good enough to mask the fact that he's a total dick.

    Thornton is at least 4th on the list of why we lost the game imo. 5th if you're religious and blame the Gods.

    I'm not sure how many will believe me but I did post this before we lost the game. I mean losing sucks, f*** Oakland and all, but going 5-5 on the trip was still good, we're in good shape, it was a great start from Workman, and I don't blame the game on Thornton, the refs didn't do the team any favors, and the Red Sox lineup should score more than 6 runs in a 3 game series.

    I'm a little worried about Thornton going up against so many righties, especially considering his split stats on the season. Supposedly his stuff has been a little better over the past month, and we're obviously in a pitcher's park against a decent/meh lineup, but still, with the winning runner in scoring position I might put in a righty to face a bunch of righties.

    At least the whole team has a few days off so we can afford to use a lot of guys if we need to.

    What I don't get is how Boston/Seattle could score 11 runs individually in 3 of the 4 games in Seattle (a pitcher's park) and yet Boston and Oakland only have a little more than 11 runs COMBINED in the 3 game series here. Is Oakland THAT much more of a pitchers ballpark than Seattle?

    This would be a huge game. Winning 2-1 on the road against a good team like the A's, and going 6-4 on a 10 game West Coast road trip against a couple of good teams.

    At least Lester has enough pitches left he should get us 7, and if we lose on the road we only need 8 innings, so our bullpen should be stacked in case Workman hits the fan tomorrow. Still would have preferred having Wright available.

    I wish that they kept Wright up to piggyback Workman's start tomorrow. I'd rather have had Wright up than Beato.

    I feel like the Sox shouldn't try to play HR derby in this ballpark. They need rallies. Walks, singles, perhaps stolen bases. (Not necessarily sacrifices although a few of the Sox have shown they can do that too) I don't think they can afford to go up there and swing up everytime.

    I'm not too upset. I'm ok with losing to a team like the A's if Lester does well. We need Lester to be the Lester of old if we're going to go deep in the postseason. Besides, in a 10 game road trip against 1 really good team, 1 good team on paper (ok in practice) and one mediocre team with an HOF quality starter (in my opinion), we're 5-3, and that's including the 4 run 9th inning meltdown against the Angels.

    Between Middlebrooks, Salty and Napoli....imagine if we eventually brought up Brandon Jacobs to the OF as well.
