  1. Settle down. I think we need to move on and chill out with the dumb personal attacks. Thanks.
  2. I would trade Masa and Sandlin just to clear up the roster nonsense. Duran, prospect and Hicks for Donovan is a big time loser of a trade.
  3. It was that sneak Bloom and his cowardly scouts who refuse to stand up and be counted.
  4. They just keep these dumb revolving doors because they refuse to sign the right guys in FA. SS - Dansby Swanson 2023 (would have solved the MIF situation for a long time) DH - Kyle Schwarber 2022 (everyone knows this) SP - Kevin Gausman 2022 (instead of a lot of garbage they put through the rotation 22-25) These are three guys we were all calling for on here.
  5. Not Bloom's fault though. He needed to do it! How could he have known that Duran, Abreu, Rafaela, Verdugo, Refsnyder and Duvall would have all been available to him at the end of the year? More important to since an obscene contract for a Japanese LHB DH to play LF in Fenway. He must have been on a Whistle Pig bender that week.
  6. If they were even considering moving Duran, we would have heard about it by now. The Sox have had so much turmoil in the MIF since 2022, but not a peep about trying Duran there. It's just not going to happen.
  7. Where the WS teams ranked in Regular Season OBP/HR 2025: LAD 2/5, TOR 1/13 2024: LAD 2/3, NYY 3/1 2023: TEX 3/4, ARZ 14/22 2022: HOU 7/4, PHI 11/6 2021: ATL 12/3, HOU 3/9 2020: LAD 5/1, TBR 11/14 2019: WSH 2/13, HOU 1/3 2018: BOS 1/9, LAD 5/2 2017: HOU 1/2, LAD 6/11 2016: CHC 2/13, 8/18 13 of 20 teams were better OBP teams than HR teams (though some are arguably too close to call different). 7 of 10 WS winners were better OBP teams than HR teams. 8 were significantly better OBP teams than HR teams (5+ spots). 2 were significantly better HR teams than OBP teams. I think looking at regular season stats makes more sense as it gets rid of SSS noise (i.e. one team has a game where they go bonkers and win in a unique way). What we do see is that only two teams weren't top 10 in either category. 13 teams were top 5 in at least one category. Average OBP ranking was 5. Average HR ranking was 8.
  8. As TalkSox's POTY 18 years running, I'm incapable of holding any meaningful conversation. 😎
  9. He has options, but we don't know if his contract allows him to be sent to AAA for anything aside from an IL stint TBH.
  10. Duran at 2b is like Plan Z. So many things have to go weirdly wrong for that to happen.
  11. Internally, they didn't believe there was a real offer from the Cubs.
  12. I think it depends on what the pricetag is TBH. We're getting near the end of FA and he's still available. Is he now a 15M guy? 3/45? Two years at 3b and DH the final year?
  13. I think if the Sox got Bregman on the Cubs deal, we would have been fine with it. At least we'd know where the lineup kinda stands.
  14. Honestly, I don't believe the Betts story has changed all that much. The only thing that we ever heard later on was "we offered him 300M" and "no they did not."
  15. Pass. He got his translator put in jail. I'm not taking the fall for him.
  16. What are the Betts changes exactly?
  17. That's where he plays now and their taxes are pretty high, so his contract ultimately is impacted by CA law.
  18. Agreed. I also agree that we can't just blame "Breslow." If you're mad, just blame the FO as a whole. It's too hard to parse out who made what decision with all the cooks in the kitchen.
  19. With CA, I believe he's getting taxed the 2M now, but will move out of state once the big payments kick in. At that point, he won't be taxed at the higher CA tax rate unless the law is changed. (It failed the last time a SF Giants fan tried to push it through https://calmatters.digitaldemocracy.org/bills/ca_202320240sjr14 ) He's getting enough endorsement $$$ so he's not exactly hurting for cash in the meatime.
  20. Bloom got grief not for bidding against himself on Masa, but picking the wrong player. Nobody else in the league was even in the conversation on the guy. All the unnamed scouts at the time laughed at the deal. We were hopeful they were wrong. They weren't.
  21. I wonder if the Sox and Cubs offered the same amount, if he still went to the Cubs because of the no trade stipulation. Would he take a certain amount less AND a no trade clause? IDK. It was reported that he wanted this to be his last contract and that it was important that he didn't have to disrupt his family again.
  22. 1. CBT flexibility 2. To get to a known AAV that fit the Red Sox internal model 3. They wanted him enough to take the offer that was presented, no more apparently One story I heard, I guess Boras did try to up the negotiations last year and go back to the Sox with another offer that was higher that didn't exist or something. When Boras went back to them this year after the Cubs offer, the Sox believed they were bidding against themselves again and weren't willing to budge. We don't know how flatfooted the Sox were by the Cubs signing Bregman. I'd say "at least somewhat."
