  1. He was offered 491M the first year and 1M the next 9 as notin's example suggested? That was my question, not whatever you're answering.
  2. With the jackpot, the payments are different. If you take the payout, it's less cash. If you take the payments, you get more cash. It's also a completely different argument as many lottery winners should probably NOT take the lump sum as they are likely to screw up early on and lose the vast majority of it. However, if they were to take yearly payments, they could still rely on a known income stream. If they were more sophisticated investors and weren't average joes, it would be certainly a different discussion.
  3. What we ARE talking about is the CUBS offered MORE NPV to Bregman than the SOX. That's what is reported. The SOX reportedly DEFERRED a ton of money decades out to lower that NPV beyond what Bregman wanted. The CUBS DEFFERED LESS. The SOX didn't offer MORE money later on, so that example doesn't matter.
  4. We didn't see much of Mayer's arm, but what we did was close to Baty's.
  5. It's the only truth we have right now. Dismissing it right now doesn't make sense unless there are other reports that suggest it may not be the truth (and not simply message board conjecture).
  6. But what if I don't like that reporting because it doesn't agree with my argument?
  7. Thought you had something there, huh.
  8. I didn't see ANY numbers shown except 1, 2 and 3 TBH.
  9. It'd be interesting to see how regular season OBP/HR stats played into W/L in the playoffs rather than SSS playoff numbers.
  10. Feel free to read up on net present value and disagree with its importance if you like. I guarantee that Boras is explaining to each of his clients why they should take contracts with higher NPV's.
  11. No. I didn't say that at all. I said A reason. And then asked if I really needed to explain 401ks to you.
  12. I think he was Plan A for a certain portion of the FO. The FO isn't necessarily united around Breslow's vision (see Bregman's signing last season).
  13. He's cheap because he's still pre-arb. LHB isn't ideal. I can't really speak to his defense as I don't watch the Mets much. Would the Sox keep Mayer at 3b and put Baty at 2b? Mets are planning to just make Baty a UTIL guy.
  14. I don't claim to know what happened to them at the Chinvat Bridge.
  15. If Anthony and Crochet get injured, the season is ovah.
  16. You want money NOW so that you can put it in investments NOW so you can have even more money later. Typically, people invest in a 401k because employers give you matching funds which is basically free money. I don't have to really explain 401ks to you do I? The "some people like to win" argument is different altogether.
  17. He was given the opportunity by Bregman. He was most likely told no by the rest of the org. It's an org-wide botch if that's the case and they really wanted him. The Sox continuing to do business that way is just dumb.
  18. You did not hear this. I believe you are lying. I bet you haven't even walked on a street corner recently.
  19. I think it's not fair to say Breslow botched it because I don't believe he really wanted Bregman here long term anyway (see: last offseason chatter, short term deal with opt outs, etc.). I think it's fair to say that the Sox botched it IF they really wanted Bregman (by this I mean the Cora, Sam leaning portion of the FO). Per all reports and what we have seen, he was Plan A for 3b and they have now fallen down the path towards several contingency plans which appear to be lesser than. It's a botch if they can't figure out 3b/2b with expediency (entire FO botch). If they have to give up additional prospects that they weren't planning on giving up in order to bring someone else on, it's a botch. It's a FO botch if they continue to have a roster that makes no sense (4 OFers AND Masa). This is a botch that goes back a few years. It's fair to call out multiple people for this. I think it can be both a botch and yet not a botch. The Schrodinger's Cat of botches. Honestly, we may not even have a clear answer when the full squad reports on the 15th.
  20. I've done my share of posting while imbibing, so who am I to judge? That's usually limited to gamethreads though.
